"The food at breakfast was absolutely delicious,I had fruit to start and there was a large amount to chose from, there was unlimited tea and coffee staff brought my food to the pub part as I was unable to climb the stairs due to my disability, Evening meal was delicious I had chicken fajitas with everything on the plate to add to the meal I Also ordered proper chips which were delicious. The Bed was really really lovely and comfortable and the room was beautiful The staff couldn’t do enough...

"The manager Anna couldn’t have been nicer. She greeted us with a cup of tea and biscuits and allowed us to check-in early and was very helpful with suggestions of things to do in the city. Rooms were comfortable and quiet and included on-site free parking. Location just a short walk into the centre. Breakfast also very good with lots of options. "

"Have just returned from a wonderful break at the Black Horse. The surroundings are idyllic with lavender fields, apple and plum trees as well as all the beaitiful plants Everywhere is immaculately maintained from the grounds to the restaurant and cottages. The staff were so kind and helpful . Would return in a heartbeat. "

"Overall everything was good, our only issue was after being there for a few days we noticed the toaster was full of crumbs, obviously not been emptied for quite some time, and the oven tray had not been cleaned after it had been used. We hadn’t met the owner, so decided it was easier just to clean them both before using them. On the hole, everything else was excellent. "Lovely hotel room, nice furnishings and decor. Staff were very helpful at breakfast with gluten free options being taken care of. Hotel building itself was stunning - especially bar and restaurant. "

"Not great for EV drivers as when you take the car to charge, you cannot return to the hotel to park. And the cleanliness in the bathroom prevented me from bathing my 3 year old."

"Fantastic two night stay in a great establishment. Room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast to die for and proper pub on site to enjoy a great pint, local friendliness and some brilliant evening entertainment. I’ll definitely be back. 👍❤️"

"Set in lovely countryside views, owners & staff all veey friendly & helpful, fabulous choice of breakfasts, meals available during evening also with a varied menu including gluten free. No hesitation in recommending The Royal Oak for any length of stay, wish we could have stayed for longer!!!!"

"A fantastic castle experience: it’s so much more interesting to stay in one than just looking. The staff were friendly and helpful and food was good too. There were a lot of stairs to negotiate to reach our top floor accommodation."

"Goid comfy bed in a nice room we were upgraded without extra cost. Wifi a bit patchy when the hotel was busy. No problem at all parking although of course there is the extra cost. Good location for central Durham"
