A very nice house to stay for the weekend, it was clean and had a wonderful view. Walking down to the river was not bad but I would recommend the host really fix up a trail/path down that hill. Kayaks were nice to use, fishing was fun, hot tub worked great, beds were comfy, couches were comfy, house was awesome!

Gorgeous Views!

Cabin was very quaint and nice. Views and outside area just great! I feel property should not be advertised as having any access to the river. The dock area was in needof repair and shelter falling down. Very difficult to walk down and I would not get in the water near the area. Suggesting is was a bonus to the property turned out to be a negative. We went to Claytor Lake Beach.

A beautiful and picturesque property high above the New River. Clean and well stocked. There are 2 things that kept me from giving a 5. It is not clear from the listing how scary the driveway to the property is. There is a trick to getting up the steep grade, but we slid backwards on the first try and it was a white knuckle r for sure. Second, the dock and pier area is absolutely not navigable by foot…may have been at one time, but path is overgrown and steep. That didn’t really matter in the end because we drove down and it was severely damaged and not suitable for guest use. It was under repair while we were there, but no where close to how pictured. We were so looking forward to canoeing and ended up going to the State Park instead. Otherwise, perfect. Be aware that it is satellite internet.

Cozy winter weekend

Our winter weekend at Lost Horizon was perfect. The home is a gem inside and out with so many gathering spaces, amazing views, as well as privacy. We enjoyed the gas fireplace, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and sleeping in the comfy beds. The owner has an amazing collection of books displayed throughout her beautifully decorated home. We did not want to leave! Also, the owner, Debbie, was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We never got to try the steam room, but there will definitely be a next time.

Mountain Getaway

We enjoyed our weekend at the cabin so much. Our son is a student at Virginia Tech and we were able to visit with him and enjoy the football game. It’s about 45 minutes to campus. We also hiked Dragon’s Tooth which is a great (yet strenuous) hike, about an hour away. We traveled with another couple and the cabin was perfect for the four of us. The cabin was clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The host’s attention to detail was very appreciated. We hope to stay here again in the future.

Scenic Mountain Getaway

Our family had a wonderful time at the cabin. The view from the house is phenomenal - watching the sun set behind the mountains and lake was idyllic. The house was clean and welcoming, we felt right at home. We hope to be back again!

Fantastic Getaway

This was an absolutely amazing trip! The views were wonderful and the home was fantastic. The attention to every detail was great. Very clean and nothing was overlooked - even the fall decorations were PERFECT. A week of relaxation and rejuvenation!

What an incredible week of rest and re-energizing spent at this cabin! Although our game plan was to spend the week on our bikes exploring the New River and Creeper Trails, we felt almost hesitant to leave our "new home"! The cabin feels very much like "your home", it is very well decorated, and super inviting! Whether you are preparing dinner in the abundant kitchen, or sipping coffee on one of many decks, or enjoying a campfire out back as the sunsets.. you will feel like you are "home"!! We absolutely loved our week here, and can't wait to come back and bring our friends to share the experience! Even a rain day spent in the big rocking chairs on the side deck feels like a highlight!!! Thank you Debbie for sharing your home with us!!!

Wonderful Weekend

This was our second time visiting Lost Horizon, and we absolutely loved our stay. The views are amazing! We kayaked, biked, relaxed by the water and on huge deck over looking the water. The house was decorated for autumn and had everything we needed for a great fall weekend. Deck table with gas firepit was awesome. Debbie was great! We appreciate her sharing such a nice cabin.

Autumn visit

We had a great 3 night visit in October. The cabin is lovely, especially the wonderful river views. We enjoyed a lot of time outside on the deck, hiked a bit of the New River Trail, played a round of golf in Redford and visited The Draper Mercantile. We went down to the river and tried out the kayaks too. It was relaxing and fun.

Wonderful Time!

We really enjoyed staying at Lost Horizon. It was perfect for our time together as a family. The house was awesome and we loved it. The setting is the best. We really enjoyed going down to the dock and taking the canoe out several times. It was the perfect getaway for family time.

Bird Family Trip 2023

We love Lost Horizon! This was our 3rd time staying here and the cabin is just perfect. We used the fire pit to roast S’mores, and the charcoal grill for burgers & hot dogs! The kayak and canoe got a lot of use and we brought our fishing polls to fish off the dock!

Great 4th of July

My family had a stay at the cabin for the 4th of July. The cabin was great. Stocked with everything you need. You do need to drive down to the dock, but it's super close (like 2 minutes). The dock area is fantastic and we spent many hours out there playing in the water. Cabin is beautiful. Fish pond outside was a huge hit with my 8 year old. Overall a fantastic place and we can't wait to come back.

Very Nice - Check Out Time, Not So Much…

Totally enjoyed the property - beautiful house and views with great amenities. Only down side was the 10 AM check out time and everything you had to do to prepare for the cleaners. Was given some extra time but still stressful. Couldn’t really enjoy the last night fully. A 12:00 PM Check out time seems much more reasonable considering the price of the rental. Like I said a lot of prep work before the cleaners get there - they surely could get the place ready in 3 hours for next guests to check in at 4:00, unless perhaps it’s a one person cleaning crew and even then…

Beautiful Views

The house is located on a steep hill, but once you get up to the top it is well worth it. The cabin is well maintained and beautifully landscaped. We rode our bikes on the New River trail, which is very close to the house. I would recommend driving to the trail since the bike ride home up the mountain is difficult on a bike. It is a very peaceful and relaxing place to visit.

Scheduled power outage

As we arrived at the property around 6 pm to begin our stay, the host notified us that there would be a “possible power outage”all day Saturday. In fact, power was out all day Saturday. He home is on a well, So no showers, no lights, no toilets, no cofee etc. I checked the power company website and it indicated that the power outage was a scheduled and definite occurrence. The owner had advanced notice of this but waited till I arrived before telling us. We were only staying for the weekend. There was no offer of a credit for the day. Only an offer to extend my stay for a day. Unhelpful as we needed to return to work the next business day. The owner repeatedly stated it was beyond her control and spoke very defensively. I have concluded that she was being disingenuous with us and made a decision to tell us about the outage after we arrived and were committed to staying there. She had advance notice from the power company. If she missed the notification, she could have made it right by offering us a credit. When she did notify us it was characterized only as a “possible outage”. This was very different from the description on the power company website. Disingenuous of the owner at best.

My young family (3 kids under 6) greatly enjoyed this beautiful cabin, amazing views from the deck, koi pond, fishing at the docks, and tons of wildlife. It was such a relaxing, secluded, and peaceful place!
