"My husband and I booked a king room at Independence Stay in Houghton for one night. We were very surprised at the size of the room; it looked like a little apartment with a full kitchen and dining area, 2 closets, a desk area and a large bathroom. It was one the cleanest and freshest smelling hotels we’ve ever stay. The shampoo, conditioner and soap lathered so well and smelled so good."

"Finally a hotel where when you put on the air conditioner, it actually cools the room! Also, comfortable accommadations & nice breakfast."

"The room was very clean. The breakfast was great!"

"The carpet in the room was filthy. The chair in the room was filthy. Even though there was no smoking and no pets, the hotel just didn't smell clean. The bathroom toilet had no toilet lid. That's the first time I've ever seen that in a hotel. The breakfast was lousy. Overall, it was one of the worst motels we ever stayed in. Well, we stayed in one that was worse in 1994 in South bend Indiana. But that was 32 years ago."

"Breakfast was good. Ran out of food prior to ending though and did not refill. Messy in area also."

"Upon checking in the room was missing an ice bucket and more importantly the TV didn't work. The host on duty worked very hard to fix things and ended up assigning us to a different room. He went above and beyond and it was most appreciated!"

"Check-in was easy. And the property is perfectly located and identified. Only issues we had were around cleanliness and the spiders. The bathroom had evidence of previous guest usage and I’ll just leave it at that. We also encountered a couple big spiders inside that we bought our own spray to take care of."

"Was a perfect spot centrally located for sightseeing. Cute little place with a comfy bed and all the amenities needed. Very clean."
