Otters Den is the perfect mountain retreat!

This spacious mountain home provides plenty of peace and quiet both inside and out. Located on a large mountainside lot and surrounded by trees it is the perfect location for wildlife watching and family gatherings. Enjoy the outside hot tub and barbeque on the back deck or just spend some time relaxing with a book and a beverage on the picturesque front porch. Families will enjoy gathering by the fire for a game of cards or favorite movie. A fully equipped kitchen with sitting space for spectators will make the resident chef smile and mealtimes a family affair. The upstairs loft provides a perfect place for separating the gang for quiet time. It is a short drive to Blackwater Falls, Canaan Resort and the “chic” towns of Davis and Thomas. Winter visits will DEFINITELY require 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Girlfriend weekend

This property was very clean. Beds were comfortable. We didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub or firepit. Loved sitting on the front porch.

First Timers

Don't usually like staying within a gated community setting, as they tend to be too crowded and more hotel atmosphere -like. But barely saw any neighbors and entering and exiting community very easy. Loved the hot tub. It was great occupying the grand kids. No AC. Didn't matter. Day time temps in mid 70's and no humidity. Night-time temps had to have to covers on the bed. Great access to many outdoor activities and easy drive to Davis, Thomas, Parsons and the other 'Valley' towns. Definitely will look to book again, if we come back to the Canaan Valley.

July 2023 Family Trip

Our family rented this house for a week. We loved the deck area with the hot tub, and fire pit. That was a great addition. We would love to see some decorative lights on the deck, that would make it sooo much more attractive. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for our trip. The goose feather pillows were a little horrible to sleep on. Overall our family loved this house it was so cozy and had all the right amenities and was the perfect distance from the guard stand. We would book it again!!!

Perfect for Our Family

We spent the Thanksgiving weekend together and the home was the perfect size with the perfect amenities! We enjoyed hiking at Dolly Sods too. This was our first ever visit to Canaan Valley and we will be coming back again to stay here!

This was such a amazing stay! Private easy and just gorgeous! The only thing was the amount of cob webs and flies. Many dead and live flies! Cob webs in windows, ceiling, corners, lamps, corner-corner, fans…- other the. That is was clean and a really wonderful stay!

Absolutely wonderful!!

Everything was fantastic. Great location and great getaway. Hot tub was great and the house was perfect for the family. Definitely would stay there again. From the time before we even started our vacation to the very last day, the experience was great. Owners and realtor were great.

Middle of the road house

House was ok. Smelled old. Definitely needs some tender loving care and attention. Needs common every day items; metal spatula for grill, aluminum foil, tape, more than three left over containers, more than two trash bags. Doable and ok house but compared to most doesn't measure up. Hot tub was very nice! When arived there was a water issue, agency called water company and resolved. Sink drain did not drain, reported to agency. Great views at surrounding area hiking places. However, very twisty windy up and down mountains to get there. If you love mountains and back roads great drive, if get car sick bad choice. One of those places you visit once and say, " well it was ok but would never return."

Nice house in beautiful area

I am a person that reads reviews so putting this out there in case it helps someone. This house is VERY dusty. I am not saying it's not clean, it was clean just dust everywhere. If you are a person with allergies, it's something to be aware of. Our only other thing was the coffee maker took forever (over an hour to brew) . Otherwise it was a fabulous stay in a beautiful area. We loved the layout of the house. We enjoyed the big windows with a view to the woods. We would book again

Very cute and very dusty

Otter’s Den is a beautiful property. We enjoyed the stay, location of it, and amenities. However, the property was ver dusty at check-in time, huge spider webs on all corners, and even the kitchen utensils were covered in a thick layer of dust. Bathrooms were clean, and so were the bed linens. , but the property is in big need of carpet replacement. You would think the guests would be received with a much cleaner property, it seems to me that the place was empty for a few months. We did appreciate the good working heating system and the hot tub, which was very clean. Bathroom mats need to be replaced badly. Overall it was a good experience, but the fees charged, I would expect a cleaner place.

Great Labor Day weekend stay with friends

We stayed there with 9 adults Thursday to Monday over Labor Day. Had a great time, using facilities (hot tub, fire place, grill). 4 bedrooms plus the couch in the den easily accommodated 9 adults. We did a lot of hiking and exploring but stayed in one day because of rain and still had a great time.

Almost Heaven

The agent and owner are exceptional hosts. Very responsive and nice enough to provide extra new cutlery and bbq set. Kitchen very well equipped. Linens and blankets very clean. Bed very comfortable. Carpet needs update/clean. The house is spacious and the area is wonderful. We will be happy to return.

Everything we hoped for

A great location to escape with the family. The house was spacious for our large group and everyone enjoyed being in the woods. Make sure your paperwork for the guardhouse is in order that you get in emails - ours wasn't and the guard couldn't let us in until we left for a bit and got it figured out - our fault, but just double check. The first night we worried about the fact there is no air conditioning but with the windows open, the house cooled very nicely. Every other evening was cooler (mid-July stay) and we never had issues. The hot tub was a nice addition and the fire pit was great for a couple of nights with hot dogs and s'mores. We also made use of the hiking trails at the top of the mountain and fishing ponds. Overall, a great location and great house!

Wonderful house in the perfect location

Loved staying at Otter's Den so much! The house was perfect for our needs - there was space for everyone and the kitchen had everything we could possibly have needed. A mile-ish walk or drive gets you to the Dolly Sods and it's only a 15 minute drive to Davis. The firepit was perfect - secluded and with a good amount of seating, and we all agreed that the hot tub was the cleanest we'd ever experienced!

Cozy house

We were pleasantly surprised with all the little extra things this house had like toys, books, and games. The area was extremely peaceful with plenty of wildlife. The only real negative was the steep, rocky, root trail up to the fire pit wasn't really safe for my mother . Once we were up there, the area around the fire pit was uneven and it was difficult to get your chair to sit flat. This was extremely disappointing for all of us and we only had a fire one night during our four nights there.

Review of 22 Tuscarora

We had an excellent long weekend at 22 Tuscarora. The house was perfect for our family reunion. There were little things that needed a bit of attention as the house ages, but nothing major. The deck was perfect for our evening family time and the seating was ample for our large group. The sunken living room was great and we enjoyed the hot tub. Might look to return during the winter for some skiing.

Hiking Getaway

The house had everything that we needed. We only brought our clothing and food and recommended paper goods/soaps and that worked just fine. Lots of hiking nearby. Access to Dolly Sods was just up the road. Canaan Valley and Blackwater State Parks were not far away. The house was nice with more than enough tables and seating. We didn't spend a whole lot of time at the house and never used the hot tub or the outdoor cooking equipment, so we can't comment on them. It's not easy to find a restaurant in the area. We ate several meals at Canaan Valley Resort for lack of anywhere else to go. In Davis, the few places to eat that were there, seem to be closed Mon-Wed. Small complaint....the Wifi worked, but it was slow and apparently not very secure.

Haven't seen my son in more than a year due to covid.. We meet half way. He lives in NC we live in NY. We really just needed to spend time together so the house wasn't that important. The grill was absolutely disgusting and there were lots of con webs in the kitchen. Had we not just been looking to spend time together is have been disappointed in the home but it was secondary.

Exactly what was needed
