Another interesting roof top of a temple near Gion.
Dedicated to the Buddhist Saint Kukai, who built it in 806, Tocho-ji Temple is a contrast of old and new.  Surrounded by apartment buildings and businesses, the temple cemetery holds the graves of past Lords dating back to the mid 1600’s.  The Temple also has the largest seated wooden statue of Buddha in Japan.
Shofuku-ji temple, the first zen temple in Japan was founded in 1195. You may just glance Buddha statues over the fence of this hut. There are expanded site building but not open for the public.
