My daughter and I stayed here for 7 nights and from the moment we stepped through the door we were wowed by the immaculate entrance way and the lovely fresh aroma. We instantly felt at home and knowing that only guests with key cards can access floors above reception made us feel very safe in a strange city. "It was overall good. I did enjoy the breakfast offering. The staff wasn’t very helpful, however. I asked for help shipping a package and the first staff member said I could bring the package to the reception desk and they could print a label and arrange delivery. The second staff member I asked when I got the package ready told me they could not help me at all. I had to walk about 15 minutes to a DHL location carrying my 25lbs package to get it shipped. The property was pretty well maintained...

"Fantastic staff and cleanliness. However, it is very dated. There is also a green space directly next door which seems to attract undesirables, they were fighting and really frightened our children."

"Great location and really helpful and friendly staff. Accommodation and facilities were very clean and well maintained. We stayed in a ‘small house’ as a family- 2 adults and 2 teens. Only down side was my husband’s snoring which the kids complained about! But can’t fault the accommodation for that. They were a bit apprehensive about the shared facilities but actually all worked really well given how long it can take for them to get ready!"

"Ein schönes Hotel in perfekter Lage, nur wenige Gehminuten von der Altstadt entfernt. Das Personal ist freundlich. Das Frühstück war großartig. Die Zimmer sind zwar klein, aber für einen Aufenthalt von wenigen Tagen völlig ausreichend. Das Bett war hervorragend – Matratze und Kissen waren bequem, sodass wir sehr gut geschlafen haben. Wir hatten einen Balkon, was sehr schön war. Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es ganz in der Nähe am Bahnhof; das Hotel stellt hierfür ein vergünstigtes Ticket zur Verfügung....

"I experienced unfriendly staff and unwelcoming staff at the Hotel zum Roten Bären. Harsh, curt and rude. Somewhat shocking for a hotel that prides itself on being the oldest hotel in the Region! The room itself was spacious and light by European standards but had no coffee machine, or mini fridge. Coffee would be available downstairs on weekends at 8 a.m. and 7 a.m. during the week. During our stay it was 100 degrees in Freiburg and of course the room didn't have air conditioning. But opening...

"Die Zimmer waren vollkommen in Ordnung, das Bett war sehr bequem. Sehr angenehm war die Klimaanlage, da wir an dem Wochenende in Freiburg waren, an dem es teilweise über 40° heiß war. So konnten wir zumindest gut schlafen. Das Frühstück war nichts besonderes, das hatten wir schon wesentlich besser. Es gab absolut gar keine glutenfreie Alternative für mich und es war jeden Tag das Gleiche. Es reicht, damit man etwas im Magen hat, mehr aber auch nicht."

"Good location, close to public transportation and food. Well maintained property. The staff at reception were polite but not friendly. Some of the toiletries in the bathroom were not refilled before we arrived. Parking is not included and can be a bit pricey over a few days. The car park is not convenient to drive in and out of often. Overall, the hotel is good value for money and a comfortable stay."

"La personne à la réception parlait français ce qui est rare. Chambre propre, assez grande, un ventilateur à disposition ( indispensable vu la chaleur), lit très confortable. C'est parfait. Bon petit déjeuner. Bon hôtel à recommander."
