We are accustomed to staying at luxury properties, which is precisely why we chose Makani Luxury. Unfortunately, the experience we encountered was far from what one would expect from a property carrying the “Luxury” designation.
From the very beginning, the experience lacked the transparency and level of service expected at this price point.
Upon arrival, we were taken to a beach area where guests wait for transportation to the hotel. There was no dock or proper boarding area. Instead, we were asked to wait directly on the sand under the sun for more than 30 minutes. There was no shade, no umbrellas, no water offered, and no seating available. Guests were left standing on hot sand in direct sunlight with no basic hospitality while waiting to be transported.
When the transportation arrived, it was not a speedboat as one would reasonably expect from a luxury property, but rather a small local boat (yola). We were required to remove our shoes, walk through the water, and board the boat under conditions that were never disclosed during the booking process.
After arriving at the island, we had still not had water or food for quite some time. We politely asked if we could sit at the restaurant and have lunch while waiting for our room to be ready. However, we were told that we could not dine until completing the property tour and were asked to wait on a sofa instead.
Later that evening we also discovered that the hotel does not provide food service after 10:00 PM,
