Spacious beach cottage with open floor plan on Sargent Island, walk through the back yard and you are on the beach. The surf fishing is great. Fishing, shelling, bird watching, crabbing or just enjoy the surf. Come put your feet up on the beach front deck with your favorite beverage and watch the sunrise while enjoying an unobstructed view of the Gulf of Mexico and Sargent Beach. We want to provide you a vacation home of your dreams, where you can relax and enjoy your getaway.
Discover unspoiled Sargent Island where the fishing is great, sunrises spectacular, and crowds are elsewhere.
Island Beach Retreat offers 3 bedrooms 1queen/1double/1king (linens provided)also a sleeper sofa that can sleep 2.
1 bath (bath towels/wash cloths for in house use only)

There are 2 security cameras on the exterior of the property. These are never reviewed unless there is a problem there.
Pet friendly. Signed rental agreement is due upon booking. $175.00 NON REFUNDABLE PET FEE PER PET. CANCELLATION POLICY IS 30 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. However if cancelled within 30 days and property can be re-rented rent will be refunded in full. If only a portion of the dates can be rented stay will be pro-rated and returned to guest.

Beach get away!

We loved Cheryl’s beach house and are definitely coming back!!! The sunsets are phenomenal and the weather was just right, this vacation was highly needed and helped us unwind and just tune in with the sea gods lol Loved every bit of her house!

Weekend Getaway form working from home.

The pictures really don't show how spacious the house is and how close the house is to the water. Wish we could have stayed longer. Really enjoyed watching the sunrise and fishing right in front of the house. Our dogs liked laying on the porch people watching. We have already booked our next stay and can't wait to be back there.

Beautiful views!

This is a beautiful home with stunning views, a nice large deck, comfortable sofas, a nice tv and good, cold a/c. There were loads of shells everywhere, which was really cool. My husband really enjoyed surf fishing and caught a lot of fish. We had never been to Sargent Beach before and were a bit disappointed at the lack of beach there was near the house. If you wanted to walk the beach, you had to drive a ways until you got past all the granite stones. The mosquitos were horrendous some days, so bring a lot of bug repellent. Our hosts were quick to communicate with us and give us updates on the weather as a tropical storm was heading in, Thankfully it decided to go away from Sargent at the last minute and we did not have to leave. There were a couple of things about the house that could use improvement. The sliding door that you have to enter in is very difficult to open. A weak, or elderly person may not have been able to open it at all. There was a definite mildew or something odor, which we figured might be dampness from the hurricane that hit earlier this year. The microwave did not work properly, but after a lot of button pushing my husband figured a way to get it to work. The request by the owners that we wash, dry and put away all towels used was way over the top, in our opinion. We have never been asked to do that before and had to go buy laundry detergent for that, because there wasn't any there.

Great place!

Loved the house and the location! Felt a bit misled by pics of the beach; lots of rocks with a bit of sand (still had a blast!!). Also other people staying should know there's an expectation that renters replace items such as soap if they run out, and that washing and drying towels is expected but laundry detergent is not provided. Overall enjoyed the stay and location!.

Good Place to Relax

My wife and I spent a week, along with our dogs, enjoying the ocean views and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. We hadn't been to the Texas gulf coast before and this was a good place for that first experience. Being only a few hundred feet from the shoreline, we enjoyed sitting on the porch with its ocean views in the mornings and evenings and exploring during the day.

Quiet beachside getaway

Our stay was nice. The property overlooks the ocean with a nice lawn that rolls into the coastline and sea wall. Some things to improve were petty and not worth bringing up here as overall the stay was enjoyable and we felt it was a fair value. Communications with the property manager/owner was outstanding. Directions can be a little confusing given the odd house numbering scheme on account of overlapping county road and Canal Drive (check in instructions state exactly how far to drive from the bridge). Huge nice TV although we couldn't get it to take other HDMI inputs and there is no internet service (cell coverage is good but hotspot to broadcast TV is pushing the limit). Overall a very fairly priced weekend retreat and host was extremely accommodating and nice.

Amazing Getaway!

This place is a great place to stay if you want to have a great time with your family and friends! The house is great very well maintained and fully equipped with all that you need. Cheryl (the owner) is amazing, easy to reach and super friendly. The view is spectacular, we were able to see some dolphins from the deck! We will be back definitively.

Pretty good…could be better

First, this house had the BEST views! Sunrise, sunset…stunning! It was sunny and cheerful. Great for birdwatching too. Bring your own binoculars! However, it didn’t seem to have been cleaned very well and the basics in the kitchen could use improvement. Suggestions: a cutting board or two, sharp knives, corkscrew, provide plenty of dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent, more dish towels, entry mats inside the doors to catch sand, a working toaster… While the beds were very comfortable, the couch was not at all and there was no other comfortable seating. You sat too low and could feel the crossbars. One other detail; THERE WAS NO INTERNET! Some may not like that but we loved being unplugged and brought books and enjoyed walks and shell collecting.The owner might consider providing literature or a notebook of recommended places to see and nearby restaurants. I hope these guidelines are helpful.

We had a great stay!

We loved the location…lots of privacy. It’s also very close to drive-on beach access. We fished in the surf every day and caught an incredible variety of fish, even a small shark! The deck is perfect for watching sunrises and we never tired of the beautiful views through the wall-to-wall windows. The kitchen has everything you’ll need to make a home cooked meal. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!

Great location and comfortable lodging

Perfect location if you are looking for a relaxing beach vacation. House was clean and the beds were comfortable. The deck is in the late afternoon shade (in July) and the sea breeze makes sitting outside well into the evening enjoyable. The beach is a hidden gem. Hosts were quick to respond via text to any questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back!

Birthday trip ‘23

We take our grandkids on annual birthday trips, this year they chose a house-on an island ✔️, on the beach ✔️, and feels like home✔️. And we did feel right at home! Got in lots of fishing, playing in the sand and vacation vibes 🏖️. Can’t wait to do it again!

Perfect View and Quiet Enjoyable Stay!

Check in was great and easy. Communication was quick and convenient. Location was one of the best places we’ve stayed on the coast. Beach was basically ours! Amenities and Accommodations were all met. I’d stay here again for sure.

Our beachfront go to

We love the convenience and accessibility of this home. It is directly on the beach, and it’s mostly private, great for unplugging. Each time we visit the property it’s updated, new deck, new ceiling fans, washer dryer, furniture. It’s a beachfront cottage, it’s cozy and private. I love this area because it’s country and beachy. The locals are friendly, a few area restaurants are always good, accommodating, and great for kids. Everything you need is at The Dollar General store a few miles away. If you are looking to unplug, take your dog to the beach, fish with the kids, just relax and slow down… this is a great pace. This house is great for families because you can easily watch the kids from the deck when they wake up wanting to build sandcastles at 7am. Bayside beachfront grill has pretty good food, my boys (10, 12, 14) enjoy the pool table, music, and sitting out on the deck…. It’s about 10 min away. We also enjoy driving our off-road Polaris up and down the beach. Tip: if you go out past waist deep in the ocean you may feel some clay beneath your feet… bring water shoes if that bothers you. It’s not harmful, just a lil slippery. Our boys usually just boogie board. Have fun!

We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful view of the gulf and a big deck to enjoy it from. Had fun shell hunting and walking along the shore. It was finally warm enough the last day to splash in the water a bit too. House was as described and we had no problems. We most loved the privacy of this location- absolutely no crowds.

Not Clean

I booked this property excited about a beach weekend but did not get the weekend my wife and I wanted. We arrived at the property at night and when first walking in, it seemed to be a nice beach house. Once we started unpacking, we realized the place was not clean. The fridge was dusty on the outside and had crusty food build up on the inside, all the cabinets felt greasy/sticky to the touch, every crevice in the couch was filled with sand, the washing machine gave off an odor and the house didn't smell bad but did not have the freshly cleaned smell that you hope for in a rental property. Initially, we wanted to stay so we started cleaning the house by wiping down the cabinets, fridge, and countertops then we moved on to sweeping. Every room we swept had a pile of dust and dog hair (this is a dog friendly property, so some dog hair is to be expected but not this much). All of that was ok but then I sat on the couch and a roach came crawling out of the cushion and then back in. This may have been caused by us opening the door to bring our stuff in, as the owner suggested during our messages, but based off the can of Raid in the laundry area, I don’t think so. We started to stick it out and stay for the night but after looking in the washing machine, where we assume the bedding is washed, we were not comfortable staying. We decided to cancel our vacation and head back home. I messaged the owner on VRBO about the issue and let her know we did not stay. After several messages over the next 6 days and sending pictures the owner decided to refund our cleaning fee only and none of the money for the stay, stating in short that some of our complaints were valid but they did not feel the house was dirty and "it's a beach house" which I guess means some level of sand, dirt, and stickiness is acceptable. I have rented several other beach houses over the years and never felt the need to leave or even clean any of them. To sum it up, we took time off work, spent money on beach gear, and drove to the coast just to drive back home in the middle of the night and spend our vacation at home. Not to mention that we are out the money for a house that we didn't even stay at. If you are ok with "it's a beach house" level of cleanliness, this might be the place for you. If you have higher expectations or even average when it comes to cleanliness, you will want to keep looking.

Our "kidmoon" honeymoon

We enjoyed the beach we walked to it everyday! You could walk back in just a few minutes and didn't have to drive to it! The kids and us loved it! We loved that there weren't people every where it's nice to get away from it! There were tons of sea shells to the sun setting and rise was so pretty! It makes it great when you can cook and not have to got out all the time to go eat! Our last day we had a picnic on the beach for lunch time!
