Summary:

River Bend Lodge is a private lodge where your family/group occupy the entire home, boat bunkhouse/ gameroom. It is the Jewel of the St John's River. Its is a spectacular river front custom-built home designed to entertain and relax with your family/group. The very open floor plan features an incredible island kitchen that opens directly into the sprawling great room with full stone fireplace under vaulted ceilings with beautiful solid wood beams for those cool nights.

I rounded our rating up to 5 although our group gave this home a mix of 4 and 5 stars. We were ages 5 to 78, 10 members of extended family visiting FL from four states, and we stayed a week and had a wonderful time. We really appreciated the huge common area - we cooked together, gathered around the beautiful dining table, watched movies, and just kicked back. We sat on the deck to fish, star gaze, relax and talk. The kids had a blast in their room in the boathouse. The private BRs with en suite bathroooms were a pleasure after days all together. The river is beautiful, and there’s so much to see and do on the river and surrounding areas. (We can’t comment on the boat rental because we didn’t rent it.) Both the owner and the manager were very responsive and helpful when a few issues came up. It was a great vacation spot, and we highly recommend it!There were minor issues that didn’t really impact our experience. The house was well furnished and decorated though it needs updating and cosmetic repairs. We couldn’t find the downstairs BR initially. The alarm system went off erratically a few times. The kitchen needs scissors, and the tea kettle switch didn’t work well. There are tiny carpet nails sticking up between kitchen tile and carpet that are painful to walk on. We couldn’t find the switch to outdoor spotlights. A safety strip (white or yellow) is needed on the exterior rear deck. We’re sharing these as suggestions for the owner and manager.

Great home went with 18 family members lots of space to enjoy each other. Beautiful dock and property,wildlife everywhere osprey,gators, manatees,blue herons.We caught bass,bluegill,stingrays and an eel.Great location for all the local springs and beaches.

Fishing Trip

We go to Astor about three times a year for a three - four day fishing trip. The River Bend lodge made the trip so much more comfortable. The lodge is laid out with everything you need and is close to boat ramps & restaurants . We will definitely be back

Plenty of Room

There was 11 of us and there was plenty of room so every couple had their own bedroom and bath. That was wonderful! We also enjoyed the large dining table which allowed us all to sit together for meals and games. The living room was also nice and spacious with plenty of room for those who wanted to watch TV. Being right on the river was peaceful and enjoyable.

Great Retreat

Had a leadership retreat with our organization. There were 6 couples and the property was great for relaxing and meeting. Loved the setting on the river, and the well furnished indoor and outdoor spaces. I would recommend for large groups.

Cockroaches

the house had a leak in the roof of the living room. and many cockroaches throughout the house. In the kitchen we find the microwave and refrigerator inside the ice machine and many in the bathrooms. It was communicated to the owner and he said he was in contract with a company. but it was disgusting to pay so much to be in a house full of cockroaches

Positive overall with some needed attention to detail

The overall stay was great! We loved the spacious layout and multiple master bedrooms. It made for an ideal stay with our family and children. Likewise we enjoyed the fishing despite not catching many large fish along the dock. We also got see some nature including fish, smaller gators, raccoons and even a manatee that swam to the top of the water at the dock. The negatives were the outdated decor and the fact we saw more than just a few bugs (roaches) in the kitchen. We were careful to keep food put away but still saw more than anticipated while cleaning and moving things on the counters. The owner was responsive when we messaged about a roof leak during a storm and sent a roofer out to repair it. In addition, there were few minor plumbing issues with toilets needing to be plunged or having to take the lid off to flush. The space is what truly made the stay comfortable and relaxing, but for the price we were expecting a few more updates and less presence of bugs. I would recommend staying here as long as those minor issues were addressed.

Big with Great River Views

Loved the layout of this property. 5 rooms with king beds and private baths, great for multiple couples. There are a few additional features not listed, like a fire pit, grill and large Blackstone. The house is a bit dated but what we were expecting, pictures are true to the house. We really enjoyed family time, cooking in the large kitchen and wrap around deck! Sunrises were gorgeous.
