As a traveling nurse, my hotel stays are often short but important, especially after long shifts. Unfortunately, my recent experience at this location of Extended Stay America left much to be desired, particularly when it comes to customer service and first impressions.
Upon arrival, I waited approximately 10 minutes at the front desk before being helped. During this time, housekeeping staff attempted to locate the front desk agent by calling and texting him — all without success until he finally appeared. There was no greeting, no smile, and no acknowledgment of the wait. While I understand staff may be stretched thin, basic hospitality and professionalism at check-in are critical, especially when dealing with guests who are arriving after overnight shifts.
What added to the frustration was the lack of transparency regarding early check-in fees. I had called the night before to confirm if an early check-in around 10:40am would be possible, given my work schedule. The night auditor assured me it would be fine — no mention was made of a $10 per hour early check-in fee. Had I known, I may have chosen a different hotel chain like Hilton, where I typically receive consistent and professional service for a similar price.
