Acerca de este alojamiento

Hawkeye Dome · 112 Acres, Lap Pool, Hot Tub, Views

  • Summary:

High above Yucca Valley, Hawkeye Dome offers a desert escape unlike any other. Featured on the cover of Dwell, this remarkable geodesic home sits amid 112 acres of private hills, with a 40-foot lap pool overlooking the mountains, a hot tub, and miles of trails to explore. Spend your days discovering the landscape, watching the sunset from a see-through cabin, and enjoying the rare pleasure of having so much open desert at your doorstep.

    The Space:

Hawkeye Dome is as much an architectural experience as it is a place to get away. Step inside and discover soaring ceilings, exposed timber, and a sunlit loft suspended above an open living space. A spiral staircase, sculptural furnishings, and a disco ball beneath the skylight give the interiors an unexpected sense of fun. Originally built by nudist physicists, the dome has a wonderfully unconventional history. Today, it's a thoughtfully designed retreat where couples or friends can settle in, spread out, and enjoy a slower pace of life surrounded by extraordinary scenery.

    -Highlights-

► 40-foot lap pool with underwater viewing windows and panoramic mountain views. Pool heating is available for an additional fee during cooler months.

► Hot tub with heating available for an additional fee

► 112 acres of private desert hills with miles of on-site hiking trails

► See-through cabin for stargazing, sunset watching, and meditation

► Observation deck overlooking the surrounding landscape

► Outdoor BBQ and midcentury fire pit

► Iconic geodesic architecture featured on the cover of Dwell magazine

► Open-concept living and dining areas with designer furnishings

► Fully equipped kitchen with cooking essentials

► Two queen bedrooms and one bathroom

► Solar-powered, off-grid living with battery and propane backup

    -Outdoor Amenities-

The outdoors is where Hawkeye Dome becomes truly extraordinary. The 40-foot lap pool extends toward a sweeping panorama of desert mountains, creating an incredible place to swim while taking in the scenery. Underwater viewing windows add an unexpected architectural detail, while the nearby hot tub invites you to settle in and enjoy the changing light across the hills.

With 112 acres to explore, there's no need to leave the property to find adventure. Follow miles of rustic trails through the surrounding hills, discover new viewpoints, or head to the observation deck for a different perspective on the landscape. The see-through cabin offers a particularly special place to sit quietly, watch the sunset, or spend an evening looking up at the stars. It is intended for relaxing and observing the landscape, not as an additional bedroom.

Closer to the house, fire up the BBQ for dinner outdoors or gather around the midcentury fire pit as the temperature drops. With the mountains stretching across the horizon, even an afternoon spent doing very little feels well spent.

Please note that the pool area has low-profile safety fencing installed in accordance with county regulations. Some older photographs may show slightly different views. The pool remains fully accessible and usable.

    -Living Area-

Inside the dome, the open living space feels airy, relaxed, and full of character. An expansive curved sofa creates a comfortable gathering spot, whether you're sharing stories after a day of exploring, playing a game, or stretching out with a book. Oversized windows bring the desert scenery indoors, while warm wood details and thoughtfully chosen furnishings balance the home's dramatic architecture.

The open layout connects the lounge with the kitchen and dining areas, making it easy to spend time together without feeling crowded. Upstairs, the loft offers another inviting place to unwind, with views into the main living space below.

    -Kitchen and Dining-

The open kitchen makes preparing meals part of the experience rather than a chore. With generous counter space, a central island, a range, and cooking essentials, there's room to prepare everything from a quick breakfast before exploring the property to a relaxed dinner at home.

The adjacent dining area brings everyone together beneath the dome's soaring ceiling, while the outdoor BBQ offers another option when the weather is too beautiful to stay inside. Stock up on your favorites, pour a drink, and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.

    -Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Hawkeye Dome has two bedrooms, each furnished with a queen bed, and one bathroom. The sleeping spaces provide comfortable places to retreat after days spent swimming, hiking, or exploring the desert.

The bathroom features a spacious walk-in shower with warm, textured finishes, glass detailing, and brass fixtures that complement the home's contemporary design.

Please note that the home features a spiral staircase connecting its levels, so guests should be comfortable climbing stairs.

    -Off-Grid Living-

Part of Hawkeye Dome's appeal is the way it embraces its remarkable setting. The property operates independently using an 11 kW solar array with battery backup, a 400-foot well, and a propane backup system.

It's a distinctive approach to desert living, allowing guests to experience the natural surroundings from a home that's every bit as interesting as the landscape outside.

    -Surrounding Area-

Hawkeye Dome is in the Town of Yucca Valley, whose Old Town is full of cafés, galleries, antiques and coffee shops. Joshua Tree National Park and Pioneertown bring hiking, climbing and live music. On the property itself, head south up the hill or out to the west for the most scenic trails and views.

    Guest Access:

The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.

As a rule of thumb, feel free to roam anywhere you don't see fences, homes or clearly private spots. For the best views and easiest trails, head south up the hill or west, where you'll find the most scenic hiking. Along the way, you might cross paths with fellow explorers or friendly neighbors.

    The Neighborhood:

Hawkeye Dome sits on 112 acres of private hills in the Town of Yucca Valley, known for its antiques and coffee shops. The estate is vast, so its exact limits can be hard to pinpoint.
