A very unique place to stay in southern VT. I did love my view overlooking the river. I can imagine it's a great place to stay in the summer, especially as a group if you're looking for local lodging close to hiking etc.
I was there end of May, just before the start of the summer season apparently, and it was all but abandoned which was disconcerting to me. I arrived on a day when the restaurant and bar were closed (monday) and no staff were present. The place has a code lock on the front door for self check-in. It was completely dark and uninhabited when i arrived. Turns out (I learned from one of the owners that was present later that evening) I was one of 2 people staying in the whole place. Being in a town I've never been to before, travelling alone, this was not my ideal. Had I not arrived on a monday, the bar and restaurant would have been open though, and that would have likely felt very different.
I would consider staying again under different circumstances because the place is very unique (building and antiques) and the owner was cool when I ran into him. But the whole place (especially windows, carpets and probably HVAC sys) could use a deep spring cleaning! 3 stars for cleanliness felt pretty generous but the bedding and bathroom were spotless and i'm giving the benefit of the doubt due to being off season.
