Rainbow Cottage - A home from home in the heart of Whitby

Ideal for families and small groups, this Victorian cottage in the heart of the town sleeps 5 with a double, a twin and a single room.
Tucked away in a quiet pedestrian backstreet, away from the noise of the road yet just a few yards from shops and cafes and only 5 minutes walk to the beach.
The vintage charm of this cottage is blended with contemporary fittings to ensure comfort and convenience whilst retaining its original features.
You will be able to unload your car outside, and parking is available in the streets around the cottage. We will provide free permits. Keys are kept in a key safe with the code provided prior to arrival.
Entering through the front door, you will immediately ascend a set of stairs, where you will find a large well equipped dining kitchen with modern shaker style cream units complete with an integrated fridge and freezer, a freestanding oven, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. There is also a separate wc/cloakroom on the first floor.
Another set of stairs takes you to a comfortable living room with an original cast iron fireplace, tv with Humax which offers more channels than freeview and a dvd player. There is a selection of books, dvds and board games. The cottage benefits from free wifi. Just off the living room is a single bedroom and contemporary bathroom with electric shower can also be found on this floor. The top floor has a double and a twin bedroom with views of Whitby Abbey.
This lovely cottage with its central location will quickly become a home from home for your holiday or short break. Please note that the cottage is located over 4 floors and may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

A lovely little cottage in the heart of everything on the West Cliff. We went for the weekend. Used the parking 2 minute from the cottage. Cottage is over 3 floors and well stocked with games and dvds which were great. Perfect location and views across to the abbey.

Our stay at Rainbow cottage was on the whole pleasant and trouble free. The owner quickly replied to my response asking for an extra parking permit. The kitchen setup is tight for all 4 people to use at once, but fine once we were all sat down. Beds were okay, lounge was comfortable. Shower was snug, even for our 11 year-old. Access into the property was fine for us, but could be awkward if you had a pushchair or similar. The location was excellent for exploring Whitby. Parking is Whitby, it's always busy and you just have to reside yourself to the car not being outside, it is the same for a large proportion of the properties. However it is possible to get very close for loading/unloading. We would consider staying again, it was excellent value for money.

Overall a nice stay. However, fridge didn’t work great, worktop was hot and woke up to a small puddle on the floor? Shower was very small and difficult to manoeuvre. Single mattresses noisy and not the most comfy. Towels a bit scratchy.

Weekend in Whitby

Generally a good stay at Rainbow Cottage. Location in the town is good but the road itself is extremely narrow . We followed advice to park briefly outside to unload and to collect parking permit. However information should have included fact that it is not possible to exit Clarkson Street at the end (in the direction of the parked car). It is impossible to manoeuvre car left or right. We then had to back all the way up the street. Afterwards discovered serious scrape on car paintwork from a boulder on the left at the end of the street. A neighbour says drivers often make this mistake! Would help if info advised backing out immediately after dropping off your bags!

Needs info on which road leads to it as most are 1 way!. We loved: The short walk to town & beach. Beds for everyone! Large, comfy settee that fit the whole family on for movie night. Room for improvement: See pics! The good: Door hinges need WD40, almost all creaked. Wooden beds, especially the double, are ridiculously creaky... More WD40 needed. Single mattresses aren't very comfy. You can feel the springs badly on one bed. We turned it around as the bottom half felt more padded than the top. Okay for my 9 yr old daughter, anyone bigger & heavier may find it uncomfortable. Investing in mattress toppers would elevate their comfort no end! The bad: It's a TINY shower. I'm 5'1" & small built & I struggled to move about. I accidentally turned the shower off with my elbow when washing my hair. The water was scalding when I turned it back on!. All the hot taps are scalding & need Caution Hot Water signs. Bathroom blind needs the cord shortening & fixing to the wall. It's a safety hazard to little ones. The Ugly: Kitchen tap. Parts of them spun around, are split open & crusted with limescale. They're quite sharp & could give a nasty cut. There's a smell of cigarettes throughout. Could be from ground floor! Lack of cleanliness in general, see photos for info. The whole place would benefit from a deep clean - I'd accept a free stay in return for deep cleaning it! As disappointing as the cleanliness levels were, we did enjoy our stay here. It's quirky, has character and charm.
Shower didn't drain quickly so I checked if it was blocked. It was just dirty and full of hair. I cleaned it (cleaning is my profession!) Blind covered in toothpaste splatters and toothpaste on the shelves.
There's a gap between the shower door and the wall. It doesn't fully close for some reason. However, unless the shower head was to be aimed that way it didn't seem to leak whilst showering.

Nice location

Easy to get to the beach as well as the shops/harbour so great location. Host communicated well and everything we needed was provided. Could do with a shelf in the shower as it is quite tight when needing to bend for shampoo etc. initially a cigarette smell to the property so not sure if previous tenants smoked inside. Thank you for a nice stay

Great wee break

The cottage is built unusually which my three kids loved. You go up a short flight of stairs as you go in and that takes you to a nice kitchen with plenty room for a family to eat in. You then go up another flight of stairs. There’s a large bathroom with shower, a living area and a bedroom.(single bed). You dig up another flight of stairs to two bedrooms, one double, one twin. The stairs are not an issue, it meant adequate sound proofing from each other and the kids loved it. The living area has smart tv, dvd (lots of dvd’s supplied) and games. Great time to reconnect with teenagers. The WiFi was perfect. We parked (using supplied voucher) about 100-150 yards from the cottage which was fine and it is a less than 5 minute walk to the centre of the town.

Cosy winter break in Whitby

Lovely stay. The cottage was just what we expected when we arrived as the online listing is very accurate. The location of the cottage is the biggest plus, but it is also appreciated that the owners are generous in providing all the little extra things within the cottage to help you make the most of your time away.

This place had everything we needed and everything worked as it should. The beds were nice and comfy and the sheets were clean. I found Simon to be very accommodating and very flexible on checkout. The instructions he gave us for check-in were very clear. I would definitely check availability when coming back to Whitby.

Loved our stay for whitby goth weekend, the cottage had everything we could have wanted, loads of room and home comforts! Very central, everywhere was walkable so we were able to just park the car up (with the tickets provided by the host) and leave it for the weekend. Also loads of info available in the guest book too. Overall had a wonderful time here.

Fantastic stay

We love Rainbow Cottage and this is the third time we have stayed. Simon is always friendly, quick to respond and helpful. The cottage is situated perfectly, a few minutes walk to the harbour. The accommodation is spread over 3 floors and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. We will definitely be back, it’s our go to place to stay in Whitby! Thanks again!

Perfect location but beware stairs

Very cosy and tastefully furnished and kindly stocked house over four floors.(Only a single room is on the same level as the bathroom).Great location in a quiet side street.Owner was very helpful as to parking advice and assistance.
