Settle into this charming and characterful cottage with wooden beamed ceilings which was built to be the home of renowned ship builder Gideon Smales in around 1816. Soak up the wonderful views of the moors to the left and views of Whitby Old Town, the swing bridge and West Cliff to the right, and spend quality time with your four-legged friends and small family or partner exploring the nearby historical landmarks, relaxing on the sandy beach or venturing out into the surrounding North York Moors National Park.
Inside you will find a cosy kitchen with wooden cabinets, a large sash window, a wooden beamed ceiling, a gas range cooker plus a dining table with seating for six and Smart TV with Amazon Firestick. There is also a separate WC on the ground floor which also houses the washing machine. A cosy lounge is on the first floor where you can put your feet up on the leather sofas in front of the wood burner effect electric fire and get stuck into a movie on the Smart TV. The second and third-floor house has a family bathroom and two bedrooms – a king size and a twin room. Outside is a small, west facing, patio with furniture.
While away your time in the traditional seaside town of Whitby where you’ll be staying on the east of the River Esk near the old town. Start your day with a stroll along the waterfront to the lighthouse, climb the 199 Steps and reach the imposing 657AD Whitby Abbey (all within 0.5 miles) or visit the nearby steam trains. Take Fido for a dip at Whitby Beach (0.5 mile) and stroll along the seafront to reach Sandsend Beach (3 miles). Enjoy cosy evenings in canine welcoming pubs (within 0.5 miles) and take a picnic to the nearby Waterfall Cottage nature reserve (2 miles) or Little Beck Wood nature reserve (5 miles).
