Higher Ground-Only short 3/8 mile drive to the South Fork of the New River-Beautiful custom log cabin with some long range vistas through trees.
Enjoy the mountain vistas on the full wrap-around deck with rockers, loungers and patio set.
Enjoy your favorite book in the cool breezes on the lower patio swings. Unwind in the new 6 person hot tub on the lower patio or relax in the hammock. Grill out under the shade trees and dine on the picnic table.
The log cabin offers large greatroom with cathedral ceiling, stone fireplace with gas logs, leather living room suite, Satellite Flatscreen 37" TV (250 channels). Dining table for 6. Fully equipped kitchen with toaster, coffee maker and all the things necessary to prepare a delicious meal. Main level bedroom with queen bed and a full bath. Large sleep/sitting loft with Satellite TV, sitting area and queen bed.
Lower level offers bedroom with queen bed, full bath and gameroom with pool table. Sleeps/Maximum occupancy 6 (including children). Access to this cabin requires driving on a private, gravel road with some steepness.
Other amenities include: WIFI, books, games, card/game table, central heat & AC.
Pets are NOT welcome at this cabin.

Beautiful Cabin

We stayed at this cabin the weekend of Nov. 8th, 2024. This cabin was nicer than expected. The hot tub was a great size and we had a great time playing pool. We really enjoyed the rocking chairs, especially while having coffee in the morning sun. It had everything you would need for a weekend get away. This was perfect for us!

Needs major attention for the price!

We just finished our stay at this property. Even though we did have a good trip, I’m not sure that we would stay at this location again, especially for the price that we paid. This property could use a good cleaning, as there was a lot of dust, spider webs, mold, etc. We washed every dish we used, as they were not clean. The price that was asked was reflective of a property in pristine condition. This was not that property. It is very evident that the property only has guests occasionally, as some of the upkeep would be taken care of if someone was there more frequently. Also, a lot of the “knickknacks” that were around took away from space that we needed for our things (ex. dresser top couldn’t be used as it was covered). Additionally, it would have been nice to have a fire pit to enjoy the picnic tables that were there, and offered another option to using the grill. Some of the major issues we encountered were the mold covered hot tub cover, dust covered fan and other objects, cracked oven top, broken door blind (which offered no privacy), disgusting grill, active wasp nests in outside lights. Needless to say, this property could use some attention before other guests arrives.

Mountain Mini-vacay

We had the best mini-vacation in West Jefferson. Higher Ground had everything we needed and wanted. We had plenty of space & we loved sitting on the porches with coffee and/or wine! The VRBO description was totally accurate.

4 day stay in the mountains

We had a very good stay at this facility. For the price, it was a very good deal. The place is a little smaller than the pictures seem to show (wide angle lenses), but it was big enough for the 5 of us. Some improvements to the lighting in the kitchen are recommended. The owners were very nice and handled everything well. The settling was very pretty and quiet.

A family getaway!!!

We had an amazing time here! We did lots of hiking and visited waterfalls! We visited Luther Rock and much more! Kids had an amazing time they loved this cabin! They even learned a little about playing pool!!! Thank you for this amazing home to stay in for our vacation in the Mountians!

A quiet get away

My family and I drove in from Wrightsville Beach on a Thursday. The cabin was clean, quiet, and peaceful. We spent Friday at ski beech, and went hiking, and visited some waterfalls on Saturday. The hot tub was a hit with the kids. I would have liked a smart TV so we could watch Netflix while relaxing at night, but I’m still giving an overall rating of a five. It was quiet, and no one bothered us. It is a good ways away from things but you know that going into it. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet with a hot tub, this should do the trick.

Loved the cabin and area!

Beautiful cabin and location . We loved everything about our trip . The cabin met our needs and the hot tub was the icing on the cake . The grounds was simply beautiful. We rarely left the cabin ! So secluded and we felt at home .

Great property!

We really enjoyed staying at this property. It was in a beautiful location that felt remote, but was still convenient to West Jefferson and surrounding areas. The kitchen appliances could have been cleaner, but all in all the cabin, beds, floors, etc were clean. We plan to come back and stay again!

Nice Mountain Cabin

We really enjoyed our stay. It is cold in the downstairs bathroom and game room, but the rest of the house was perfect. Also, if you plan to stay bring a large frying pan and a large pot of you plan on cooking for a group.

Winter Get Away

Overall a fine experience and the cabin worked for what we needed. Unfortunately, we will not return. A couple of things which would have been nice to have or change: 1) There were no bathroom hand towels, only washclothes. 2) Some of the towels had holes and were old. 3) There was no shovel to clear additional pathways. The steps and a path to the door was cleared off but the rest of the upper deck including pathway to the hot tub was not. 4) The downstairs was freezing. The portable heater was a life saver, without that the downstairs would have been unusable.

Perfect location

It's off by itself so you can enjoy being with family and have your privacy but also close enough to town if you need anything. The owner visits mid stay to be sure the hot tub is maintenanced and is very sweet. The only downfall is there was nowhere to hang any clothes, but plenty of dressers for storing them. Has a very nice homey feel to it. Even has a washer and dryer so you don't have loads of clothes to do when you get home.

Parents’s weekend

The house was comfortable and clean. The driveway up needed some work and the directions once getting off main road could have been a little clearer. Was a nice weekend but a little further drive than I was expecting to get to Boone.

House needs maintenance

No air conditioning when we arrived. The air filter was so clogged it was sucked into the return pipe. There were no new filters on the property so I drove to the nearest town and bought one. Once the unit could breathe it started circulating air and by the next morning we had it cooled down. There is water leaking from the upstairs shower into the floor cavity/ceiling cavity of basement. There is slight mold on the ceiling where the water has been able to escape the cavity. (Meaning the cavity with no air or light is well into the molding process) The water leaks and drips to the left of the washing machine making the floor very slippery. There is also a good bit of black mold around the base of the shower. The house is extremely dusty. I have pictures so the owner can get these problems resolved. Who shall I send them to
