Acerca de este alojamiento

A restored 1783 home steps from King Street in Old Town Alexandria, featured on the 2023 Historic Alexandria Homes Tour. Four bedrooms, two and a half marble baths, a renovated kitchen, and a private walled garden with a koi pond and waterfall.

  • A restored 1783 home in Old Town Alexandria — steps from King Street and a 10-minute stroll to the Potomac waterfront. Featured on the 2023 Historic Alexandria Homes Tour, and known locally as the Ticer House. Four bedrooms, two and a half marble baths, a renovated kitchen, three fireplaces, and a grand piano. Out back, a private walled garden with a koi pond and waterfall that glows at dusk. Walk to dinner on King Street, catch a water taxi to Georgetown, and come home to the garden.

We are available by message or phone throughout your stay. You will receive check-in instructions and a digital guidebook with everything you need before arrival. For anything urgent during your stay, we respond promptly and are always happy to help with local recommendations, directions, or any questions about the home.

Step out the front door into the heart of Old Town Alexandria — the town George Washington called home, and one of the largest, best-preserved historic districts in America, where gas lanterns flicker outside the historic homes and Federal-era brick rowhouses line block after block.

This is a neighborhood you experience on foot. King Street — a mile of restaurants, taverns, boutiques, galleries, and coffee houses — is steps away and slopes gently down to the Potomac. It's a ten-minute stroll to the waterfront promenade, where you can sit by the water, watch the boats, or catch a water taxi to Georgetown, The Wharf, or National Harbor. Follow your own Prince Street down toward the river and, on the lower block by the waterfront, you'll reach Captain's Row — one of the last original-cobblestone streets in Old Town. The free King Street Trolley runs the whole length.

History is everywhere. Christ Church, where Washington kept a pew, is a few blocks away. The Torpedo Factory Art Center on the waterfront is full of working artists' studios. And the Old Town Farmers' Market — one of the oldest in the country, running since 1753 — fills Market Square every Saturday morning.

Favorite nearby tables: Restaurant Eve, Virtue Feed & Grain, The Majestic, Hank's Oyster Bar, Barca Pier, and Misha's Coffee for the morning ritual.

Getting around is easy: the King Street Metro (Blue/Yellow) reaches downtown DC, the National Mall, and Arlington in under 20 minutes; Reagan National Airport is a 10-minute drive; and the Tidal Basin's cherry blossoms are a short Metro ride away.

Old Town shines year-round — the Scottish Walk parade in December, First Night on New Year's Eve, the Alexandria Film Festival, and summer concerts on the waterfront.

Park the car, walk everywhere, eat well, and slow down. The Charlotte on Prince puts you right in the middle of it.

Guests have access to the entire home across all three floors, the fully equipped kitchen, the backyard garden, and the first-floor powder room and two full second-floor bathrooms. The basement is locked and not accessible. The backyard is fully private and enclosed.

    THE HISTORY
The Charlotte on Prince was Home #3 on the 2023 Historic Alexandria Homes Tour. It began as a 1783 flounder house — a distinctive Old Town form with a single sloped roof — and is known locally as the Ticer House, home for decades to Patricia "Patsy" Ticer, Alexandria's first woman mayor and a Virginia state senator, and her husband Jack, a longtime city councilman. In an earlier chapter it was a neighborhood boarding house. A 2023 renovation carried it into its newest century while keeping its historic character, with original antiques throughout and a bronze plaque by the front door that tells the Ticer story.

    First Floor
Step through the blue front door into a formal parlor anchored by a decorative fireplace with a carved white mantel and gold-framed mirror. A geometric brass pendant lantern casts warm light across wingback chairs, a blue camelback sofa, and a grandfather clock that has kept time in this room for generations. Wide-plank hardwood floors run throughout.

The formal dining room seats eight beneath a brass chandelier. A mahogany china cabinet stands against the far wall, and a second decorative fireplace with a gilded mirror adds depth to the room. This is a space built for long dinners.

Beyond the dining room, a parlor with a grand piano offers a second living area — a quiet place to read, play, or simply pass through on the way to the kitchen.

    The Kitchen
Fully renovated with white shaker cabinetry, quartz countertops, a gas range with custom hood, stainless steel appliances, and a handmade subway tile backsplash. The deep stainless undermount sink sits below a window overlooking the backyard. A botanical-print wallpaper accent wall and a glass-paned French door to the hallway give the kitchen personality without clutter.

Everything you need to cook a real meal is here — not a kitchenette with a hot plate and a prayer.

    The Family Room
Behind the kitchen, a second living space that most homes in Old Town simply don't have. White-painted brick walls, exposed dark ceiling beams, a fireplace with a wrought iron screen, built-in shelves with a bar area, Audubon bird prints on the walls, and French doors that open directly onto the backyard. A large flat-screen TV, a wicker wingback chair, and a deep sofa make this the room where everyone ends up.

    The Backyard
This is the reason to book The Charlotte on Prince.

Step through the French doors onto a private walled garden — a stone patio with wrought iron dining for six, a green lawn, and a koi pond with a natural stone waterfall running along the brick garden wall. Adirondack chairs sit beside a white garden trellis. String lights line the brick wall and wooden fence, and at dusk, the entire space glows.

No other home in this neighborhood has outdoor space like this. Most have a small brick patio at best. The Charlotte on Prince has a garden.

A first-floor powder room with pedestal sink and mosaic tile floor is located off the main hallway — convenient for guests using the kitchen, dining room, or backyard without going upstairs.

    Second Floor
Three bedrooms and two fully renovated marble bathrooms.

The back bedroom overlooks the garden through three windows. A king bed with an upholstered headboard, floral accent pillows, a tufted reading chair in the corner, and a leather bench at the foot of the bed. Green botanical curtains frame the windows. A hallway with closets connects this room to its marble bathroom — a double vanity with Carrara marble countertop, dual undermount sinks, beveled mirrors, and a marble tile tub/shower surround.

The front bedroom faces Prince Street through two tall windows. Navy blue walls set off a king bed with a linen headboard, block-print accent pillows, and a cedar blanket chest with coffee table books — "Historic Houses of Virginia" and "Old Town at Home." A tiger maple highboy dresser with brass hardware stands in the corner alongside a cane-back chair. A flat-screen TV sits on a navy-draped console.

The third bedroom features a cherry four-poster queen bed with white matelasse bedding, crystal lamps on navy pedestal side tables, and built-in shelves with blue and white accents. A floral window valance and antique bookcase add character.

The front king bedroom and the queen four-poster share a jack-and-jill marble bathroom — a frameless glass walk-in shower with marble subway tile walls, a marble basketweave tile floor, botanical art, and a gray vanity with marble countertop.

    Third Floor
A staircase leads up to the loft — an open attic with exposed original ceiling beams, a wrought iron chandelier, and wide-plank floors. Two twin beds sit on opposite sides of the stairwell, separated by a vintage barn door leaning against the exposed brick chimney. A writing desk with bookshelves tucked under the eaves makes this a quiet place to work or read.

This floor has the feel of a historic ship's quarters — rustic, charming, and perfect for kids or guests who want their own space.

King Street Metro station (Blue/Yellow lines) is a 15-minute walk or short drive — connecting to downtown DC, the National Mall, and Arlington in under 20 minutes. Reagan National Airport is 10 minutes by car. Water taxis depart from the Alexandria marina to Georgetown, The Wharf, and National Harbor. The free King Street Trolley runs between the Metro station and the waterfront. Street parking is available on Prince Street and surrounding blocks.
