Wish they provided soap, shampoo and conditioner, but the room itself was a lot nicer than you would expect from the outside view of the motel. Overall for 70$ a night, its hard to beat.

Hidden gem

This is a gem find right in Wartburg. Shopping to do some research at Frozen Head State Park. The staff was very helpful and polite and was a pleasant overnight stay.

Upon check in, the owner told me I needed to pay an additional $40 for a third person. I stated that I didn’t realize they charged for kids. The owner then questioned me about their ages to the point I offered to show my son’s drivers license. Then, when entering my room after check in my kids discovered dead bugs on the floor. They were very upset and concerned the room was not clean. I went to the office and spoke with the owner. He came immediately and picked up the bugs and said it was no big deal. I explained that my kids were freaking out and we would not be staying there as the room was not clean. He offered to clean the room and then give a new room but at that point the damage was done. He basically laughed in my face and told me I would not be getting a refund. I honestly would have been fine just exiting the situation if the owner had not been so arrogant.

The inside of the inn really counts!

Scenic river is the only place to stay in Wartburg. Unit #8 is clean inside and looks newly painted with new flooring. The mattresses need updating. The family who runs the inn are friendly. The outside of the inn needs a lot of attention.

The odor in the room was overwhelming. When we opened the door to Room 14, the smell was so bad it nearly made my wife vomit. It had a strong, stale odor reminiscent of a room rented by the hour, as if previous guests had left behind heavy body odor and poor hygiene. On top of that, there was a separate, unmistakable mildew smell that suggested serious cleanliness and moisture issues. We did not unpack a single item. We immediately left the room, returned to the front desk, and turned in the key. Despite the condition of the room and the fact that we did not stay, the manager on duty refused to issue a refund, which was both shocking and unacceptable.

There was no hot water unless the water ran for 20 minutes and there was no water pressure. The toilet area was so small I could hardly sit on the toilet.
