We have been staying in cabins for close to 30 years and this is one of the best places we've ever stayed at. Everything about the cabin is exceptional. The hosts go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Would definitely recommend staying here when visiting Volcanos National Park.

The hosts were excellent, so friendly and a joy to talk to. The Crater Rim Cabin was secluded and stocked with everything you could possibly need or want. The grounds were beautiful. It was located close to the Volcanos National Park. We stayed three nights and highly recommend this place for staying in the area and exploring.

We cannot speak highly enough about our stay in the cabin. This is clearly a labor of love for Barry and Jim, and it shows in the preparation, comfort, and all the little details that greeted us. Even after we arrived, they made sure all our questions were answered and helped us plan our visit. They sent suggestions for dining and activities, and (most importantly to us!) kept us updated on what Kilauea was doing. We were incredibly lucky on that front, as we were able to watch a fountaining episode start on our second night. The cabin itself is just beautiful ... redwood all around, tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. A lovely garden in the back just added to the experience.

A beautiful cabin set in a gorgeous garden - what not to like! We really enjoyed our stay, the hosts are great & the location to Volcanos National Park was great. Highly recommend staying here if visiting Volcanoes & we can’t wait to go back!

Cute cottage with a 5 star service

I like everything except the comforter cover looks dated but the rest room is spotless and the host Barry is a sweetheart to work with and provides lots of tips for our trip. Breakfast supply is plenty but u have to cook it itself … I think it’s great for family trip if u don’t mind cooking cause they stock up all the ingredients like milk, half and half , eggs, cereals and plenty of fruits and even some treats!! Location is great cause they so close to the park so in general it’s a 4.5 stars

Crater Rim cabin is a nice quiet place that is close to the Volcano National Park. It is a quick drive to get into the park for sightseeing or hiking. The cabin is very comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. We used it as a base of operations for multiple trips into the park. I did some jogging on the road, which does not have a lot of traffic. At the end of the main road is the Volcano Winery, which has some interesting wines to taste. Located about 30 miles from Hilo, sights near there and on the coast are easily reachable. On Route 11 it is about 96 miles to Kona. They have a list local restaurants in Volcano. We enjoyed dinners at the Volcano Lodge and the Volcano House (in the park), which were short drives. Summary: beautiful, quiet and centrally located for activities around the park and visiting the town of Volcano.

A truly special place to stay in Volcano

This cabin is one of the most special places I have ever stayed in. Barry and Jim, the owners, take immaculate care of it. They stock it with breakfast foods (eggs, milk, coffee, fresh fruits, cereal, oatmeal, bread etc) for quick starts to the day. We loved coming back to the cabin after a long day in the National Park. The fireplace quickly heated up the cabin and the heated blankets made getting out of bed difficult! When the volcanoe started erupting, we were 10 minutes from the Park parking lot for a great sport for viewing (and they called us to make sure we were aware it was erupting!). We loved seeing the NeNe on the golf course behind the cabin as we drove out each day too.

If you’re exploring the Park, it’s a mistake to fail to stay at this warm, special spot so proximate to VNP! The gardens surrounding the cabin highlight local flora. Cabin itself is immaculate. Hosts are beyond accommodating. You can run back to park at night (when it’s at its best)after a restful meal. Next time I’ll sneak in a round of golf on adjoining quiet course. Thank you, Jim and Barry.

A Dream Cabin Stay on the Volcano.

A spectacular one bedroom cabin that had a full kitchen sumptuous breakfast offerings in the refrigerator, think eggs, butter, milk, fruit, bread, cereal…. There was a gas fireplace/heater and electric blankets to keep one cozy on cool nights, dvds and player, books, art supplies, restaurant recommendations. On ad one. The hosts had everything prepped and we enjoyed every minute!

We had a warm welcome greeting by one of the owners, Barry, and a very pleasant check-in! About a mile from Volcano National Park we enjoyed all the park had to offer. The cabin property is beautiful and home-like with a living room/dining area, master bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and carport. Also, there are wonderful botanical-like garden views from every window! Charmingly decorated throughout and sparkling clean. The decor also includes a few stunning photographs by the other owner, Jim. An excellent complimentary breakfast of fruit, cereal, eggs, toast, and coffee or tea made for a great start to the day. You can eat other meals out at nearby restaurants or cook meals in. We loved the cabin and the park. We would stay again, and again!

Cozy gem with amazing hosts and great location

Can't recommend Crater Rim Cabin enough - upon booking, we received helpful and welcoming communication from the hosts, Jim & Barry. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by Barry who took time to learn about us and our trip and provided recommendations to make our visit that much more memorable and enjoyable. The cabin was very clean and cozy and the property itself was extremely well kept, beautiful, and private. The hosts had stocked the fridge with some essentials (eggs, milk, juices, butter, bread) and also provided some fresh fruit to enjoy. The cabin is on a half acre and has a our children (7 y/o twins) had an amazing time exploring and playing around the garden. My wife was concerned about the lack of AC but the temperature was perfect even in mid summer (we actually needed the heater at night)! The property is minutes away from the national park and the town of Volcano which has restaurants and a local farmers market on the weekend. This was such a wonderful experience for our family. Cabin feel in the Hawaiian country was very unique and memorable, and the energy of the property and the hosts was something special. Highly recommended!

Hands-down the best place we stayed during our 2.5 week trip to Hawaii! Barry and Jim were wonderful hosts, we were greeted by Barry as soon as we arrived! He helped get us settled in and showed us around the cabin. The cabin comes stocked with breakfast items, coffee, and fresh fruits! It is located close to Volcanos National Park, so it was perfect for my husband and I since we love hiking! The cabin was spotless and the bed was very comfortable! When we go back to Hawaii, we will definitely be staying here again! Thanks so much Barry and Jim!

This was a totally unique property, with a cozy cabin near the volcanoes. The hosts were amazing, with lots of tips and suggestions. They were very accommodating to a few requests we had. The yard is absolutely beautiful (I love gardening!). The cabin is rustic with non-drinkable water and a gas fireplace, but drinking water is provided in jugs. That is the only inconvenience, and very minor for us! I highly recommend this cabin for a unique place to stay.

We had a great stay here and would recommend it. The cabin and grounds were both beautiful. The only thing that made us a little annoyed was that even though we showed up at 6:00pm, our cabin still wasn't ready, and we had to stand there there and make small talk with the owner, while he made the bed and cleaned the bathroom, not what you want to do after traveling and hiking all day. Other than that, the owners were lovely.

Wonderful cabin close to Volcanoes NP

This was an excellent place to stay! The cabin was cozy and clean and had everything we needed for our family stay. Barry and Jim were wonderful hosts and genuinely care that you enjoy your stay. Convenient breakfast food was very much appreciated and came in handy when woke up at 3 am. :) We would definitely stay here, again, if we come back to the Big Island. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality, Barry and Jim!

Crater Rim Cabin is a piece of heaven. This was our second visit, can’t wait till our third! Hosts are awesome, grounds in the rain forest are spectacular, cabin is immaculate with many thoughtful snacks and amenities. Can’t get any closer to Volcano National Park. This cabin is a real gem and perfect getaway.

Some of the best hospitality we have ever experienced. This stay was one to remember. I guarantee you wont find a cleaner place. The grounds are its own botanical garden. I stood in the same place in the garden and just stared for half an hour straight. We will be back!

It was amazing! There was a large supply of food for breakfast that lasted for 3 mornings. The landscapeing was fantasticly beautful. It was close to the town, Volcano, with two good restaurants and a general store for necessities. The cabin was also well stocked with natural history, geology, and local informational materials. The kids really liked that... and the flashlights. It was very nice to chat with Barry and get some of his and the cabin's story. We'd definitely recommend this place!
