About this space
Step into a piece of Traverse City history. Nestled in the iconic Village at Grand Traverse Commons—once the historic State Hospital and now a vibrant hub of boutiques, eateries, and nature trails—this stylish studio offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern comfort.

Located just one mile from downtown and West Bay’s beaches, you’ll be perfectly positioned to explore the best of Traverse City while enjoying the serenity of this one-of-a-kind setting.

The space
Welcome to the Sweet Studio—your private, peaceful retreat in Building 50, the first and most architecturally grand renovation of the historic hospital grounds.

This high-ceilinged, light-filled condo features:

~Queen bed with blackout shades and reading lights

~Cozy lounge chair with ottoman—perfect for unwinding

~Large smart TV

~Well-stocked kitchenette with a 2-burner cooktop, mini fridge, cookware, and essentials like olive oil, salt, pepper, coffee, and tea

~Private bathroom with walk-in shower, plush towels, and hairdryer

~Closet with luggage rack, clothes steamer, iron, and ironing board

~Air conditioning and heating for year-round comfort

Enjoy your morning coffee with a view: relax on the nearby shared second-story porch, which overlooks the historic front lawn. (Note: porch access is not directly connected to the condo but open to guests.)

This is a fully private studio. You’ll have the entire space to yourself. Porch access is available as noted.

This was a lovely room in a quiet, beautiful setting. We enjoyed every moment in this piece of history. There’s so much to do in The Commons that you never have to leave the property. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was quiet and peaceful. I can’t wait to come back.

A great place to stay while out and about in the Cherry Capital

We picked to stay here because we were intrigued by the history of the building and all the amenities on site. It was a wonderful stay! This is a no-frills studio, but it was perfect for our needs and was much more comfortable than a hotel room. We would stay here again!

Comfortable and lovely home base for exploring

A smidge larger than a hotel room, but so much nicer! Comfy bed, beautiful bathroom, great location. We loved having several choices for coffee and breakfast nearby (go to Sugar2Salt if you can!!). One tip—the second parking lot listed (not the fountain entrance) has a ramp into the building, which is much easier for handling luggage.

Crazy not to stay here

While it's a very small space, the description was spot on. The location was central to everything in Traverse City plus day trips to lighthouses, tunnel of trees, roadside curiosities, etc. We had a great time.

Hidden Nugget

This studio was absolutely adorable! We stayed two nights and had wished we could have stayed longer. Rental had all the amenities needed, delightfully decorated, and located close to downtown Traverse City!🍒 Definitely would stay here again!

A Suite Stay!

The cutest little suite in the Commons! We've been wanting to stay here for a while now and finally got our chance. Beth's place is so adorable, just what we needed for the two of us. Good location for us because we like to run and walk, so were within distance where we could do so to Old Town, Front Street and pathways/trails. Quiet building with old-time charm. Sadly, we did not hear or see any ghosts :) We wanted to take a twilight asylum tour, but sadly they weren't running on the nights we stayed. Next time!

The perfect little gem of a stay!

I LOVED this location and studio. I could walk everywhere- coffee, food, hiking trails, quiet park. It was SO CLOSE to downtown. And easy access to all the wonderful thing TC has to offer. I enjoyed the patio area and really could stay here over and over! It was perfect for a solo stay and adventure

Other than the space meeting our expectations, we loved the historic building where it was repurposed for community needs. The on-site shops were fun to explore. Very close to downtown Traverse City. We would definitely stay again!

A Fun Exprience

This location was the most unique we have stayed at. We had dinner downstairs the evening we arrived and shopped the next morning. The rental itself was as described. It is snug but has everything we needed. I will say there was some noise from the hallway but it didn't interfere with our sleep. We also very much appreciated the 100% cotton sheets!

Lol - great little place. The only issue was the elevator operation - we were warned , but it took more than a few times to make it work. Next time we will definitely dine at Stella.

Perfect spot for short weekend trip!

We were going to meet friends for hiking, and to have a birthday dinner at Stella‘s. It was super cool to just walk right into the Mercado from our little getaway spot. Would definitely stay there again. Well done!

The best little studio

We love staying at Beth’s studio condo! The location is everything you could want, walking distance to Higher Grounds Coffee and Pepenero for dinner. The unit is cozy and comfortable. Parking is free and easy. Beth communicates so well. We’ll stay here again and again!

Small apt but was all we needed for our weekend away! We love the history and area around the old hospital, it was definitely cool to stay in the renovated room and check out the little shops and we made a reservation to eat at the Stella restaurant! Check in was easy, the room was very clean and everything we expected.
