Have fun with the whole family at this spacious and stylish home, 4 minutes from boat dock to Cumberland Island.
This home is a 3 bedroom/2 bath, has self-check-in, laptop friendly space and is pet friendly.
Nice backyard with furniture, games, grill, firepit and 3 free bikes.
Fully equip kitchen, coffee bar and laundry room.
We do allow pets but we limit 2 pets. Also please keep dogs off furniture.

Qué hay en los alrededores

  • Dungeness on Cumberland Island, Georgia, is a ruined mansion that is part of a historic district that was the home of several families significant in American history. James Oglethorpe first built on Cumberland Island in 1736, building a hunting lodge that he named Dungeness. Oglethorpe named the place after Dungeness, in England. The next Dungeness was the legacy of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene, who had acquired 11,000 acres of island land in exchange for a bad debt. His widow built a four-story tabby mansion in 1803, over a Timucuan shell mound. During the War of 1812 the island was occupied by the British, who used the house as a headquarters. In 1818 Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee, a dashing cavalry commander during the Revolutionary War and father of Robert E. Lee, stayed at the house until his death on March 25, 1818, cared for by Greene's daughter Louisa, and was laid to rest in nearby cemetery with full military honors provided by an American fleet stationed at St. Marys, Georgia. The house was abandoned during the U.S. Civil War and burned in 1866. In the 1880s the property was purchased by Thomas M. Carnegie, brother of Andrew Carnegie, who began to build a new mansion on the site. The 59-room Queen Anne style mansion and grounds were completed after Carnegie's death in 1886. His wife Lucy continued to live at Dungeness and built other estates for her children, including Greyfield for Margaret Carnegie, Plum Orchard for George Lauder Carnegie, and Stafford Plantation. By this time, the Carnegies owned 90% of the island. The Carnegies moved out of Dungeness in 1925. In 1959 the Dungeness mansion was destroyed by fire, alleged to be arson. The ruins are today preserved by the National Park Service as part of Cumberland Island National Seashore. They were acquired by the Park Service in 1972.

We enjoyed our stay for the 2nd time. The host was very accommodating to us and our needs. The house was very clean. It is located in a quiet neighborhood and very close to old town St.Marys. It works great for those, like me, that work remotely. Our dogs love the fenced in yard. Look forward to staying again!

Great Option for St. Mary's

The house was great, full kitchen and utility room. The AC worked great (it was August)! House is laid out a little different, we stayed in queen bedroom as bathroom was attached to that room. The king bedroom and twin bedroom share the bathroom in the hall. Worked great as the queen bed was perfect for us (firm mattress). We had a little snafu with missing washcloths (only 1 in the house), after communication with host, we received the washcloths but much later than anticipated or communicated. Overall, we would recommend the house, quite neighborhood and all amenities of home. Thanks again.

St. Marys fun

Enjoyed our time in St. Marys. Cutely decorated home in subdivision. It was quiet and low traffic. The dogs loved the fenced yard! Close to town and Convenient to restaurants and stores. Work space in one of the bedrooms. Very minimal supply of dishes and kitchen did not have Tupperware for storage or a dishwasher. It was fine for us because we ate out most meals.Nice touches included…soap in laundry and shampoo, conditioner and body wash in both bathrooms.

Short supplies

Was nice but they need to have wood for the fire pit and charcoal for the grill. We went and purchased the wood and charcoal and what we didn’t use we left it for other guests. They just need to make sure it’s furnished to the point their guests can spend more time at the house and not at the store buying stuff the house should have.

Beautiful home

We spent a week there. Downtown has a few restaurants and stores with a small home town feel. Kingsland is close for all your shopping needs. Great little brewery that is moving to downtown St. Marys. Be sure to take ferry to Cumberland Island. Dining area and living room cute and comfortable. Love pass the pass thru from kitchen to dining area. We only used master bedroom. The king size bed was very comfortable And the size of master was great. Too cold outside to take advantage of the outside patio furniture and firepit. We loved the coffee bar. The home was very nicely decorated. Quiet nieghborhood. Great house for a family to stay. Overall we would stay there again if in the area.

Charming!

Adorable little house! The beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of space. I went with my adult daughter and my toddler. The backyard was huge and fenced. This trip didn't allow for us to use the patio but I will definitely stay here again and look forward to using the outdoor space! There is a functioning railroad track right behind the house but it was surprisingly quiet. The host left me a little Christmas gift that just melted my heart!!! Great communication from the owner as well.
