Elegant country retreat near Spring Green w expansive views of Driftless Region

The Glass House of Spring Green is an architectural gem set along a ridge of native prairie grasses and oak woods, with an exceptional view of the Driftless Area hills. Built in 1984, it was enrolled in the Driftless Area Land Conservancy, assuring that its native landscape will be maintained in perpetuity. Its parklike setting assures a private, peaceful retreat.

Prairie plants and native trees dominate the 24 acres near the house and mowed paths give access for birding, botanizing, picnicking, snowshoeing and skiing. A large deck with ample seating faces the distant hills and vivid sunsets. Inside an extensive library offers reading for all tastes, from history and nature to fiction and photography.

A single story, 2,300 sq ft home, the 3 bedroom and 2 baths stretch along a hallway leading from the central space. A glass wall brings the outside in to the central space. The 3 bedrooms include 1 king, 1 queen and 1 twin bed set up, all with easy access to one of the 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped to please even the best gourmet cook.

Nearby outdoor recreation includes the Wisconsin River and Governor Dodge State Park for paddling, swimming and hiking. American Players Theatre, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, the Spring Green Art Fair and many music venues are within a 15 minute drive. The House on the Rock is less than a mile away and two golf courses are close by.

The easy-access layout includes ample parking and a large, walk-in tiled shower in the main bathroom. WiFi and Satellite TV service is reliable. The geothermal heating and cooling system is both comfortable and environmentally friendly year-round.

It is well suited for larger outdoor events, by special arrangements with additional fees.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Glass House. Online photos do not do this home justice! We knew it would be beautiful, but it's even more stunning in person. The house and its surroundings were so lovely that we didn't even want to leave for adventures. We just wanted to sit and read, so we could enjoy the house.I was impressed by how incredibly well-stocked the kitchen and pantry are. Whenever we stay in other homes, I'm used to hauling all my kitchen supplies with me. In this case, there was no need for that! Same with extra blankets, pillows, etc. We had way more than we could ever need.Barbara is a very communicative, thoughtful host. She gave us great suggestions for where to eat and what to do. We want to come back in warmer weather, so we can explore more.Overall, I cannot recommend this home enough! It was absolutely magical.

A wonderful old prairie style house. All that glass brings the outdoors in. Wide screen tvs with cable access. Wifi throughout.The kitchen and bathrooms are modern and well-maintained. Beautiful grounds and views over the valleys. Secluded but with easy, level access from Hwy 23.

Everything we needed from bedrooms, bath towels, kitchen and relaxation space was here. We did cook and eat all our meals for the weekend at the house and had all the equipment we needed. The view was lovely. It was such fun to tour Taliesin and then return to space that was prairie style. Barb was very easy to work with. Would love to return!

This lovely home was a wonderful place to spend our fall break. The autumn colors were beautiful, and the property itself was excellent. We enjoyed walking the paths, took a day trip into Dodgeville, and visited Spring Green the next day. Sitting on the deck and taking in the stunning view was a highlight.We loved that the home is set back on the property, giving it a secluded and peaceful feel. The house was well-decorated, clean, and stocked with all the necessary supplies. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Although it’s a home built in the 1980s, it’s very well maintained and includes all the modern conveniences.

This is a fantastic property, and the host, Barbara, was responsive and friendly. If you are looking to visit nearby Taliesin or House on the Rock, and you want to stay in a lovely and private home with beautiful grounds and a picturesque view, then this is the place for you! The kitchen had everything we needed, and there were plenty of games and books for our family to choose from. Hot water and star link internet were both very reliable. We plan to return!

The first feature was the Wyoming Valley which is always beautiful and restful. Next was the number of long windows throughout all the common areas that made you feel like you were part of the prairie. And finally the numerous Southwest and other items throughout the house that really gave it a peaceful aire. We enjoyed staying in the home so much that we didn't make any trips to neighboring towns and it was a short drive to American Players Theater which was our primary purpose.

Stunning house and property near Talesin and The House on the Rock. Nestled in a mature landing of trees with beautiful vistas off the back porch. Kitchen and pantry are stocked with the necessities. Lots of space for groceries and beverages. Kitchen table or the back porch is where we gathered for coffee. Lots of birding, natural life readily viewed from every room. Two bathrooms were available, although one is in the master suite. Plenty of towels and bedding available. Very comfortable home that fits with the lovely landscape, regional interests. Love the teepee entrance. Hope to visit again.

We had the most enjoyable stay at the property. It felt like our own kingdom atop the bluffs and beautiful countryside. The house is laid out very comfortably and is outfitted with everything you will need. The vibe is relaxing and invites you in. The view from the endless windows draws you towards the outside. We spent a lot of time on the deck overlooking the hills and prairie below. The photo and video opportunities were limitless Wi-Fi was great We can't wait to come back.
