Spectacular Earthship

  • We are so glad to welcome you to our Spectacular Earthship!

    This ingenious home is luxuriously off-the-grid, with solar power, water harvesting, integrated greenhouse & expansive glass offering views of mountains & star filled nights. We even have "surprisingly good" WiFi throughout the home!

    For Earthship aficionados, our home is a "global model", the pinnacle of sustainable design and architectural beauty without sacrificing comfort.

    Our Earthship, built in 2013, is off-the-grid, meaning all electricity and heating/cooling are solar powered. Water is harvested from rainfall, and used multiple times after domestic use including watering plants in the beautiful integrated greenhouse. The ample New Mexico sun even creates the heat for hot water. The house was constructed with mostly recycled and natural materials, including tires and recycled glass. Everything was lovingly handcrafted and artistic touches abound.

    An Earthship is not for everyone. You'll find all the comforts of a modern home, but you need to be conservative in your use of water and electricity. It's much easier to be mindful of resource use and in tune with nature with the expansive views -- you'll see sunrises, sunsets, starry skies, and can watch weather move across the mesa with long range views to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

    The Internet access is quite good most of the time, but since you are off-grid sometimes the WiFi can slow down and it can be frustrating. We find the Wifi suitable for streaming television and video calls most of the time, but not always so please be advised. Cell phone reception is limited.

    Our guests are amazed at how easy and rewarding it is to experience an earth-sheltered natural home and enjoy learning how to help the house perform at its best :) You maintain comfortable temperatures by opening and closing vents, windows and doors - participation is a must!

    Before we purchased this property, it was a long time rental with a 4.98 score and over 200 glowing reviews. People love staying here and we hope you will too!

    We are located in the world famous Earthship Biotecture, just outside the beautiful town of Taos, New Mexico. We are located about 20 minutes from the town of Taos and about 45 minutes from the Taos Ski Valley, one of the premier ski destinations in the world.

What an amazing experience staying in an earthship. We spent our full day just hanging out. We enjoyed the patio, and just the experience of being here. We got to enjoy an awesome sunset, sunrise and storm.

What a fun/unique stay! Peace and quiet, solitude and views for days. We loved learning about how the earthship was constructed and were amazed by how well it maintained a consistent, comfortable temperature. We would definitely stay again.

Michelle's home was so cool! Beautiful, clean, the right amount of space for a couple, and full of intriguing Earthship details. Sitting outside and taking in the incredible, expansive views felt transformative for a New Englander.

It’s a very nice and unique property. This is a great example of an earthship with natural solar heating. The thick walls make for a very quiet and serene environment. You enter through the greenhouse into the main living space where our late October to early November stay was completely comfortable even though it was pretty cold outside. We quite enjoyed our stay.

Great place to relax

I was in New Mexico for work and I have always been intrigued by the Earthship concept. My stay was great- unfortunately not a lot of star gazing due to weather but watching the storms go along the horizon was impressive.

Came solo for my birthday and had the best time watching the sunrises and the sunsets. Everything was as described in the listing and my host replied back quickly when I had questions. Perfect Weekend Getaway!

We enjoyed every minute of our stay in the Earthship! The check in and check out processes were seamless, the space was exactly what was advertised, and the views were stunning! My only regret is not finding a way to bottle the incredible scent the greeted us when we opened the door to the greenhouse area.

Staying in an Earthship is a cool experience! This home is like a retreat inside, We just loved all the details. The smell of the flowers when you enter and the full wall of glass gives you the feel of being outside, but with all the amenities of a home. The bottle walls are beautiful, including the shower. Our son went to Earthship Academy last fall and explained the construction process and concept to us. But until you " live " the experience you can't fully appreciate it. The construction is so unique and interesting, its worth the stay. I recommend doing the Earthship tour to gain a greater understanding these homes. It is a beautiful home in a great location. FYI, so thankful you had the French Press coffee directions. It had been quite a while since I had made coffee that way--So enjoyable to slow down and enjoy the coffee, the home, and the view of the mountains! Thank you We would highly recommend staying here!

It was spectacular

We were absolutely thrilled to be able to stay in this house. It did not disappoint. The smell of the geraniums when you first walk in is delightful. We really liked the floor plan. And we enjoyed the proximity to the monumental bridge across the Rio Grande.

Enjoyed getting to experience staying in an Earthship property. The greenhouse corridor greets you with lush foliage and delicate fragrances, a nice contrast to the desert landscape outside. The kitchen was adequately stocked and the living room comfortable to lounge in. Plenty of closet space so you don't have to live out of your suitcase. You do have to be thoughtful in your water usage, but I found that it was a good exercise in conservation, you learn just how little you need when necessary. They provide all the soap/shampoo you'll need (their water system setup requires natural ingredients that won't hurt the plants) so if you're allergic to cleaning products derived from coconut you'll want to avoid showering or check that your soap would be safe to use. Never had any issues with the electricity or the wifi. It was nice to sit out on the patio area and watch the sun sparkle through the glass bottle wall. On clear mornings you can see the sun rise behind the mountains. If you are the type to explore, you may see some interesting wildlife around the property. It was a good experience and I would stay there again.

Peaceful & calming

We loved staying in this earthship! We have had a huge interest in them and it was wonderful to be able to experience living in one. There is a sense of peacefulness within, especially when it is cold & snowy outside and yet so warm and comfortable on the inside. The greenhouse is a wonderful spot to spend time in, the bed is comfy and the bathroom is very unique. 20min drive to Taos, which has so many spots to eat and shop!

Earthship Adventure

We loved staying in the earth ship. It was beautiful and very comfortable. Watching the stars on the outdoor patio at night was phenomenal - We saw shooting stars and there were just millions of them. It is very close to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and we also toured the visitor center at Biotecture which was fascinating. Learned lots more about earth ships. Very quiet and peaceful.
