  • If peace and quiet in your own home are what you desire, Apple Cottage is the perfect retreat to bring the family and escape it all. Nestled on the shore of Western Way, the house offers the visitor plenty of privacy and access to the ocean's edge, surrounded by spectacular scenery. There is easy access to every activity Acadia has to offer, even free public transportation, in season, right from the end of the driveway. Easy convenience to the park, shopping, free public transportation in season, and all the other activities here on Mt Desert Island. About two hundred yards from the coastline. Delightful character with a large yard and gardens surrounding. Wander down to the water's edge, or enjoy nature from the deck, listening to the endless chatter among the birds and the sounds of the nearby ocean. A great place for kids and adults to explore all that Mount Desert and Acadia National Park have to offer.

    Sit on the deck and enjoy fresh lobster while viewing sailboat races and passing boats. The house is a short distance from the favorite Acadia National Park hiking trails, Wonderland and Ships Harbor and just a five minute drive from the delightful village of Southwest Harbor. Within a short distance there are the many recreational opportunities of Acadia National Park with its extensive network of hiking trails and carriage roads. There are many opportunities to hike, bike, kayak, sail and to explore the many delights of Mt. Desert Island.

    Layout: Large, attractive living room with ocean views and wide sliding door access to deck. Separate kitchen. Dining table accommodates 6. The primary bedroom has a queen size bed. The second bedroom has a set bunk beds for two adults (or two children). The oversize bath includes a walk in shower. Washer and dryer, TV, central heat. Kitchen has dishwasher, stove and refrigerator and microwave.
    The deck has reading area and chairs, gas grill and dining table with sun umbrella and chairs,
    Amenities: The Island Explorer, a free island-wide bus system, stops within a short walk from the house and it can accommodate bikes. The house is located near renowned Acadia National Park, close to Southwest Harbor village center with shopping, restaurants and lobster pound. Sailboat, motor boat, bike and kayak rentals available locally. Half hour from Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor.

It was an amazing stay. With it being our first time in Maine, this cottage was the perfect place for us. We throughly enjoyed our stay and plan on coming back in the summer.

We stayed at this home for several days for our tour of Acadia Park and Bar Harbor. Found it a little further away from the things we were interested in but overall Pleasant stay.

Off the beaten path, just outside of Southwest Harbor you will find a lovely little hideaway. Cozy and tranquil, a great place to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. My teenage boys and I stay in Anne's home, the last week of June. It was a great home base for us as we traveled the island. She gives great recommendations for hikes, food and things to do on a rainy day. The house was clean, the beds were comfy and the view off the back deck was magical. Stay here - you won't regret it!

Maine cottage getaway

We loved the cottage and it was a great way to explore Acadia! This was our first trip to Maine and we can’t wait to come back. Mt kids loved playing in the ocean just a mins walk from the cabin.

Apple and Sand Dollar is a wonderful setting that accommodates our family very well. We have visited ANP and SWH for decades. It a favorite place for our family.

Amazing place. The pictures of the view don't do it justice. A great spot to sit and have coffee in the morning. We are a family of four (two high school kids) and the place worked well for us. The host was very responsive to the one question we had during our stay. Would definitely stay there again!The location on the island is pretty great too. There's a lot of things on the west side of the island to do. We did a lot of great hikes, and ate at Beal's and Thurston's (both excellent). It's only about a 25-30 min drive to other activities on the east side of the island. Again, love the location and the cottage.

Quietude cottage

We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was the perfect size for our family and gave us easy access to all of Acadia NP. It's located on the quietsude if the island which we really appreciated at the end of full days of hiking around ANP.. My kids really enjoyed the easy access to the water to investigate all the tides pools at low tide as well. Would definitely stay here again if we had the chance.

We love Apple Cottage. The ocean view is gorgeous. We love listening to the lobster boats early in the morning. Sunrise and the star lit night skies are dramatic and a welcome delight after urban life.

Small cottage was great home base for exploring this majestic island. Works well for families with small kids that want to be outdoors a lot. Owner was responsive and quickly tended to our needs during the trip!

Plan to Return!

Location is great on the quiet side of the island and numerous eateries are location fairly close by. The deck is a fabulous location for enjoying your morning coffee while watching the boats go by. Access to the beach is excellent and there is beauty in the simplicity of the layout of the cottage itself. We plan to return!

Relaxing stay

We enjoyed our stay at the Apple cottage. The cottage was spacious for a family of four and very quiet. The location was superb, with beautiful coastal and natural surroundings. Watching from the porch the sunrise over the water was something. Would come back again if we have a chance.

The location was central to everything! The house was simple and very clean! We had everything we needed. Anne got back to us right away and provided a great deal of information. We LOVED our time in Maine and Apple Cottage.

Recent visit

This was our second visit to Seawall. Location is great for hiking in Acadia and we enjoyed fabulous weather. Kitchen is not equipped for elaborate cooking, but was fine for making simple meals which is all we felt like after hiking all day!

Beautiful stay with nature

Had a wonderful week with great weather! Apple Cottage is perfect for us!! Enjoyed our visits with the deer! So graceful! Had a surprise visit by a gaggle of 14 turkeys! Great place to relax but close enough to visit the parks. So happy that Seawall was fixed!! Great place to picnic!

The Apple Cottage was beautiful. It is oceanside and set on a property that is secluded and peaceful. Deer visited us morning and evening, adding to the relaxed feeling. It was on the quiet side of Acadia but close enough to all of the Park to make hiking and other activities accessible. We plan to return in the future.

Acadia Visit

Loved the quiet location with a view of the water. Property was clean and had everything we needed. It was a great base for visiting Acadia NP and a cozy retreat for those inevitable foggy, rainy days; so much nicer than a hotel room. Host responded immediately when we our access code didn't work.
