The birds eye view is worth the hike and refreshments are on hand at the Old Battery, which was the Victorian coastal defence and secret rocket testing site, perched above The Needles. Dropping down the other side of the Tennyson down, Alum Bay comes into view. The twenty-one different coloured sands create a distinctive backdrop for the shingle beach.
