Bears Hideaway Pet friendly

  • Come relax with the whole family at Bears Hideaway, a true log cabin which is secluded on a mountain ridge. Located in the gated community of Shagbark off Wears Valley Road at the Pigeon Forge city limits, we are just minutes from the main Parkway in Pigeon Forge. Easily navigate to all of the attractions that Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg have to offer from our centrally located cabin.
    TVs in the bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen with Keurig and Mr. Coffee style coffee pots. pool table in the loft game room which has a futon with linens available.
    A hot tub on the covered front porch.
    Heavily wooded lot in the private gated Community of Shagbark.
    This cottage is in a gated 1300 acre community close to the Pigeon Forge city limits. Shagbark has a community swimming pool available Memorial Day weekend until the end of September. Shagbark only has about 246 cabins scattered throughout the wooded hills and year round creek that will make you think you are in the Smoky Mountain Nation. There is a game court with tennis, basketball, pickle ball and cornhole by the Community Center 3150 N. Clear Fork Road. Playground equipment, pavilion with picnic tables, tetherball, frisbee golf and walking trail in the meadow off N. Clear Fork Road along the creek with 2 parking areas. Wild turkeys, raccoons and bears wander throughout the forests. Please be careful and do NOT feed the animals.

Great getaway

We like the property and its location. The place was spacious, clean, comfortable to have some family time. We really enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace. We also enjoyed playing pool and some of the video games. Great place to get away.

Great time in our mountain retreat

We enjoyed our stay. We were within 30is minutes of Dollywood, Pigen Forge, etc. The location was nice and private, and even saw a bear! Prepare yourself for the narrow and winding road though.

Cathy's cabins

The cabin was beautiful and clean. The first night we stayed had four bears walking around the cabin. Did not bother us one bit. I gave 4 stars for cleanliness because the community pool had lots of debris the four days we stayed and it was never cleaned out. Did not stop my kids from having fun. Roads to the cabin are paved and not to steep. Great place to stay.

On top is the mountain!

Overall it was a good stay. The cabin is very dated. And could use upgrades. Also- it is at the very top of the Mtn. So If steep roads intimidate u- don’t stay here. We loved it! And it snowed. But the road was quickly cleared. The back bedroom stayed very cold- despite having the heat on. Maybe another heater available. Kids enjoyed the loft very much!

Wonderful Stay

This cabin was perfect for my 3 children and myself. The rooms seemed to be pretty soundproof. I never heard my kids walking around, playing music, playing games, or anything once I laid down. The beds were comfy, AND I was happy to see a fan, in the closet, I could use. It was steep getting there, but my little car did the job. The night before our last one there we were actually on the porch when a bear came up and tried to get into the trash. Thankfully we followed the rules and had that locked, AND my vehicle locked. It was nice watching him from a distance as he couldn't get in the trash he strolled back down the driveway, and we could watch him stroll on down the road. We would definitely stay again.

Cabin Retreat

Overall, the cabin had what we needed. It could use a few updates, but we had plenty of room for 3 adults and a toddler. Deck and outdoor table were a little dirty upon arrival. Best advice (a note left by a previous guest in the welcome binder), turn RIGHT out of the drive way when leaving and coming back. GPS will tell you to take a shorter route, but it is VERY steep. Be careful driving to/ from the cabin at night. We drove from Arkansas and arrived about 30 minutes early to the entrance. They will not let you in early, so just be aware they will make you wait outside the gate until it is exactly 4pm. It does say that check-in is at 4pm on the instructions, but I had reached out to the owner prior to and she did not respond. Our fault for arriving slightly early, I suppose. We had a lot of fun playing pool and board games provided in the cabin. The hot tub and fire pit were a nice touch. It is secluded from town, but once out of Shagbark, a short drive to Pigeon Forge. Overall, a decent stay.

Family vacay 2022

We have been to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge several times and always rent a cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Bears Hideaway, There were 6 of us including a teen, 3 year old and 4 adults and we had plenty of room. The owners were very responsive to a few hiccups at check in that were totally my fault. That was very much appreciated. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed and we even got a chance to enjoy the hot tub. Did not see any bears but did see some wild turkeys. Would recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and experience the peace and quiet of being in the Great Smokies.

Not what we expected

We read in a review that good tires were a must for the steep incline to the cabin. We were not expecting it to be that bad. My husband and I have high blood pressure and bad anxiety. Once we reached the cabin I had two panic attacks and didn't want to leave again. We couldn't let this ruin our son's spring break so we left the following morning two days early and rented a hotel. We're from Michigan and drove almost 9 hours and this whole thing made me sick..lesson learned. 😞

I absolutely loved the cabin

The cabin was really clean and cozy, it had everything we needed to make it feel like home. The front yard was a plus because it was perfect for walking the dogs and also the dog park at the bottom of the mountain was wonderful. The game room and hot tub was wonderful. I will Definitely be back to book this cabin again in the future. We usually come every year on our vacation.
