Renowned architect Elee Tsai designed this stunning home – just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge -- to be a reflection of our soul’s connection with heaven and earth. Uniquely situated on one of the Pacific coast’s most spectacular bluffs, Vista Del Mar (“View of the Sea”) boasts broad, unobstructed white and blue water ocean views from the living room, dining room, kitchen and all three bedrooms. Absorb the powerful force of the waves against the black rocks…feel (and smell) the ocean breeze on your face…this is The Sea Ranch at its absolute best.

Recently remodeled, Vista Del Mar features an elegant open floor plan with soaring exposed-beam ceilings and warm wood detailing throughout. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, it’s a short 10-minute walk to the Ohlson Recreation Center and beach where you can swim, play tennis and enjoy a relaxing sauna.

Musicians love taking in our glorious seaside sunset view while playing the Steinway Baby Grand piano – and everyone enjoys the comfy window seats, cozy fireplace and wood-burning stove. Movie fans can curl up in front of the large flat-screen TV (with DirectTV satellite) enhanced by the dramatic surround sound experience of our Bose Acoustimass entertainment center. And those that can’t entirely escape the outside world will appreciate the free nationwide phone service.

The chef(s) in your group will flip over the large, well-equipped gourmet kitchen with its exquisite Honduran Mahogany cabinetry. Grill masters and BBQ mavens always appreciate our high-quality, outdoor grill (with direct propane connection). Overlooking the crashing ocean waves, the spacious 1600 sq. foot deck gives everyone plenty of space to relax and unwind in our classic Adirondack chairs. If you visit in spring or late fall, keep your eyes peeled for seasonal migrating whales. After dinner, why not gaze at the moon in the star-filled sky while enjoying a relaxing soak in our new 50-jet spa tub (which can be closed off for complete privacy).

With its spacious 2800 square feet, Vista Del Mar’s three bedrooms and loft offer comfortable sleeping for eight adults. The home’s warm, welcoming ambiance – complemented by tasteful furnishings – creates the perfect escape for relaxation and enjoyment of nature’s beauty. We also provide fresh bed linens and towels free of charge. Our home is professionally cleaned between guests and our enhanced cleaning and sanitizing processes adhere to all current CDC guidelines.

Please be aware that because Vista Del Mar is located so close to the bluffs (and features natural redwood paneling easily damaged by curious little hands), you must personally inquire about bringing children under age 10.

Q May I bring my pet?
A Unfortunately, no. No pets are ever allowed inside (or outside) our home.

Q May I smoke inside the home?
A No. Nor may you smoke outside the home. Vista Del Mar is strictly a non-smoking zone. In fact, smoking is prohibited in all common areas of The Sea Ranch community.

Q May I wear shoes in your home?
A In a word, no. All shoes must be left outside the door(s).

Q Is your home professionally cleaned between guests?
A Of course! In addition, please be assured our enhanced cleaning and sanitizing processes adhere to all current CDC guidelines.

Q Are towels and linens included?
A Yes! Fresh white linens and bath towels are provided at no extra charge.

Q Is daily housekeeping included?
A Your stay does not include housekeeping service, but it is available (for an additional fee) if pre-arranged prior to check-in.

Q Is high-speed internet available?
A Yes! Our home is subscribed to the Sea Ranch Connect network providing guests with internet download and upload speeds up to 1000 Mbps.

Q Is there a hot tub?
A There sure is…and you can relax knowing it’s professionally cleaned between guests.

Q Are there parking restrictions throughout The Sea Ranch?
A Yes. The Sea Ranch community is private property, and vehicles may only park where designated. Also, no motor homes, trailers or boats may be parked at our home at any time.

Q Will I need vehicle passes?
A Yes. Two vehicle passes are provided at check-in, which allow you to park at The Sea Ranch’s recreational centers and along clearly-designated roads.

Q Does it cost extra to use the recreation centers?
A No. With valid guest passes, as many as six visitors may register for access to The Sea Ranch recreation centers at one time. You receive your guest passes at check-in.

Q How many people am I allowed to bring?
A The maximum number of people in the house—or anywhere on our property--at any time is limited to eight (8) individuals, including but not limited to guest(s), children and other family members and/or visitors. This maximum occupancy may not be exceeded at any time--or for any reason--during the length of your stay.

Q Are there restrictions regarding noise levels?
A Yes. From 9 pm to 7 am (7 days a week), The Sea Ranch strictly enforces their Nuisance and Enforcement Rule. These noise limitations are taken very seriously and violations can—and will—result in monetary fines; multiple penalties can stack up in a single 24-hour period when the initial violation continues uncorrected.

Q Are there security devices on the property?
A Please be aware that the outside front entrance to Vista Del Mar is equipped with motion-activated video cameras (with remote video monitoring).

Q May I bring my kids under age 10?

Glorious 4 days

we stayed for 4 nights at Vista Del Mar with our adult children and their friends. We ate at the lodge one night, then cooked at the house the other two nights. The house was so well equipped including all grilling equipment, pots, pans, platters. Great clean hot tub for sunsets and whale watching. We went hiking and fishing every day. There is no place quite like Sea Ranch and VDM was the ideal location to enjoy it.

Stunning indeed!

You wake up to dreamlike panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and a cup of coffee. The house is architectural and elegant in every way. You walk along the cliffs and bluffs quietly observing aquatic life: a breaching whale, sea lions nestled on the beach below. And you think to yourself… I don’t ever want to leave. Spectacular ocean view from the house, deck and hot tub

4 couples vacationed here together in early November. We loved the house. The four bedrooms were all very comfortable. Even the loft was spacious, had plenty of privacy, and had an ocean view. We chose this house to rent because of its location (close to the ocean) and we are so glad we did. Ocean view from almost every room. We cooked all meals in - the kitchen was very well equipped - nothing we needed was not there. The walking paths are wonderful. We did a lot of exploring and hiking. We spotted wild mushrooms everywhere - a mushroom forager's paradise. We used the main pool at the Ohlson Recreation Center. It was fantastic. Huge, heated, and empty. We had it all to ourselves. And there's a wonderful redwood sauna. Our favorite thing about John's house was the hot tub. It has sliding walls for privacy, which you can open to see the ocean (and deer passing by). At night, we'd all sit in the hot tub and marvel at the night sky and count the shooting stars we saw, and breathe in that delicious ocean air. We had a wonderful stay and definitely hope to return to Seascape and rent John's house again. And if you're into hiking: a must-do hike is the Russian Gulch Waterfall Loop trail - spectacular. It's just past Mendocino. After the hike, stop in Mendocino for lunch or early dinner.

Perfection on the Bluffs

What a gem this lovely home is… Set right on the bluffs, the serene setting and zen decor of this beautiful house set the mood for a very special family gathering…. The views from the house were so beautiful that we had to force ourselves to get out and further explore the area, which kept surprising with magnificent vistas, beaches, and groves of wind-blown trees. This was a perfect spot to reconnect with family and nature… Loved it!

Wonderful Sea Ranch Weekend

Our family including kids (2 & 5), and grandparents, had a wonderful weekend stay at Sea Ranch. John was so incredibly helpful at the time of booking and all the way through the end of our stay. We enjoyed our daily walks around Sea Ranch - including one of the playgrounds on-site (near a Seal preserve!). We enjoyed an afternoon swim on one of the days at the Moonraker pool. We also enjoyed all of the meals we cooked in the kitchen - we brought up many groceries but enjoyed filling in the gaps at The Surf store in Gualala. We hope to be back again soon!

Wonderful Stay, Wonderful Property!

I loved my stay and can't wait to come back. The house is well-maintained, perfectly outfitted, and extremely comfortable. It's obvious that John and his family love the home and take great care of it. The deck is perfect for soaking up the sun. And then there's the location -- privacy, amazing ocean views, soothing ocean sounds, and frequent deer visits. Just sublime.

Magical Family Vacation

Vista Del Mar is a magical place where one can experience living on the ocean’s edge. Sea breezes, ocean waves, and salty air set the mood. Chasing waves, building sand castles, collecting small treasures are only part of the experience. Walking the bluffs or hiking the forest trails do not disappoint. The house is perfect. The kitchen equipment is excellent, the window seats and beds are comfy. The entire experience is not to be missed!

I’d love to go again!

The location is incredible, literally right at the water. It’s layout was perfect and big enough for everyone to enjoy. One of the best part of this home was the kitchen was fully stocked with every kitchen equipment/utensil imaginable. We loved staying here and would love to come back.

Beautiful Sea Ranch

We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend over Mother’s Day. A+ experience all around. Oceanfront location and sunset views were amazing (the hot tub view!). Serene holiday

Clean, beautifully maintained property with sweeping ocean views. Good location within ranch by bluff trail. Uncluttered with just enough interesting personal objects, books, games to feel like home rather than a generic rental. Kitchen well-equipped, real fireplace, great hot tub, comfortable beds, plenty of towels etc. Charming window seats for reading, working on laptop (good wifi!), staring out to sea. Large deck for grilling and amazing sunsets. Owner very responsive and helpful. Highly recommended!

Great house in great location

Excellent location with nearby ocean front view through big picture windows. Great master bedroom and bathroom with ocean view and very comfortable bed but no closet, only a short wardrobe; other two bedrooms are in a separate wing with one bathroom for the two bedrooms. Everything works well, the heat is specially efficient and fast.

Fantastic Sea Ranch Experience

My overall review is short: This is an excellent place--hard to imagine anyone who wants to stay in Sea Ranch not having a great experience. My notes for others on this house (to try and be helpful): Sea Ranch, as a whole, is one of the most lovely getaway spots anywhere. The drive up CA1 is worth the time alone, and the ocean-side houses and long meandering trails are the perfect way to relax. John has a great place right in the middle of Sea Ranch, and nicely close to the rec center/pool. It’s a great combination of functional along with that indescribable 70s era funkiness that I really enjoy. We had three generations sleep there for Christmas, and everyone was comfortable the whole time. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes/flatware as well as cook pots/pans/implements/spices, the couches and chairs are very comfortable, and there are more bed/sleeping combinations possible with the upper level loft than is apparent at first blush. Additionally, the sheets and blankets on the beds are very comfortable, helping even the lighter sleepers in our crew stay blissfully asleep. This feels much more like a beloved family vacation house, used by grandparents and many little kids alike (check out the pile of games in the bedroom closet), than a sterile purpose-purchased and appointed Airbnb. I would go back anytime. The only pointer for others—bring a bag of ice (and a meal for your first night) from the Stewart’s Point store or the Gualala Surf Market on your way in, so you can enjoy a cocktail at sunset your first night; as well-appointed as the kitchen is, there is no food to make a meal on check-in (including no cooking oil, coffee, ketchup, and other fridge dwelling condiments). Overall, I was very impressed with the house, and would absolutely stay here again. Jon was very communicative about setting expectations, check-in, and progress, and we tried to be as respectful as possible of his very lovely home.

Tranquility by the Sea

Clean, well maintained, fully stocked kitchen, private, close to ocean surf, far from nearest neighbors. Great place to relax, go for walks along the ocean, enjoy eclectic food in Gualala, watch the deer play and the seals lounge. Truly a restful, rejuvenating experience.

Amazing views with ocean sounds

Great location near the ocean and walking trails. Clean house and host was very attentive and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. Outdoor deck area was great for hanging out and could sit in the hot tub with a view of the ocean. You could hear the waves from the house :)

Peaceful and Private Sonoma Coast Home

Recently, I had the privilege of staying at Vista Del Mar on the Sonoma Coast, and the experience far-exceeded my expectations. Being from Seattle, I am accustomed to staying at world-class homes and resorts in the Pacific Northwest for both pleasure and business. I have never stayed at a nicer place than Vista Del Mar in over 30 years. The location at Sea Ranch is beautiful, private, and very peaceful. The home is stunning and has everything one would want or need during a stay. It is in immaculate shape and the listing photos accurately reflect the appearance and amenities. On one of the days at Vista Del Mar, our group played golf at Sea Ranch Golf Links. Though I had planned to play, I chose to spend my time sitting on the deck and enjoyed quiet time watching the ocean until the golfers returned for hot tub and cocktail time. The owner was very helpful and gave me a great deal of information about the entire area which contributed to an excellent whole experience. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone, feel it is a good value, and plan to return again in early 2013 for a family reunion. My thanks to the owner for an absolutely delightful experience! Mahalo!!
