Sunshine Cottage - a wonderful stay

The cottage was beautifully decorated and very clean. It had all amenities and requirements. Beautiful pool area and close to the trolley stop to access Pine Avenue and Gulf Drive. Would definitely go back.

Great location, perfect home!

We had a wonderful stay, the pool was a hit with my kids! The house was clean and had everything we needed. Not too far from our favorite ice cream shop, Two Scoops! Loved using the kayak and bikes too. Thank you for helping make our first visit to AMI a memorable one!

Cute house, Poor experience with owners

Overall, the home is small (ok for 4)+ nicely decorated. Only 4 of us were able to make it down due to the hurricane (Hurricane Nicole). It was making landfall in the AMI area the 1st day of our trip. So we asked if we could move our trip to another time or shift it back by 1 day. They were unwilling to do that even though it was available. They said it was not a hurricane + asked where we were getting our info (we were using the Wall Street Journal, TWC, and local Sarasota news). They said we could come early but that was not helpful (hard to move up trip/flights and why come to sit through a dangerous hurricane?). Some of our flights were cancelled, rerouted to land in other airports and the bridge to the airport was closed - in short it was a disaster that could have been easily avoided. When we were in the process of checking with the airlines to see if we could stay another day they charged for the additional night without us confirming 1st. Overall, cute house but really difficult time with the owners.

Cute Beach Cottage

We had a wonderful girls' weekend away here in Anna Maria! The house was exactly as pictured and was in a great location. So many great memories and I can't wait to visit again with my family. The only issue we had was getting some of the bikes down from their storage location as they were very heavy. Great communication with the host as well to solve any issues.

Loved this house!

Great location (near water but need to bike to beach) and on the canal. We were 7 adults and we fit with no problem. Kitchen had all the amenities, owners were very responsive, check in and check out process super smooth. Everything was exactly as advertised. The house was so great we hardly ever left! Thank you Scott and Michelle for creating such a great place to come to just relax and unwind. Will definitely be back!

Parking difficult for 2 or more cars

The house is large enough for 2 families but the parking is very limited. The owners solution for 2 cars is one in the garage and one on the driveway. The garage is very small so 2 large vehicles will not fit. There is a street parking restriction and an owner parking restriction on the grass area. We had to ask the neighbors to borrow a space for the first couple of nights. Overall, the experience was not relaxing, it felt as if we were intruding on a home as opposed to welcome. Apart from the parking,there were rules posted all over the property (have not seen that many in over 30 years of renting properties) and surveillance cameras at the front and rear of the properties which was a little disturbing.

Beautiful bayside home!

Loved it! Only thing I’d change was getting a queen size bed for master bedroom. It’s hard to sleep in a full bed after having a king at home. And the screened in porch was great, but needs a solid roof to block sun and rain.

Great family rental

The photos sold me on this house, but the in person this house was even better!

Had all the amenities you could ask for to make your vacation complete. Super clean, salt water pool, canal to fish from, kayak to kayak the Canals, bikes for everyone to cruise the island and close to the beaches, bars and restaurants. We didn't want to leave! We will definitely come back to this house on our next visit to Anna Maria Island. Score from 1 to 10, I'd give it a 12.

Great house but not exactly what we were looking for..

This was our second time using HomeAway and it did not go as smoothly as our first. We are a Floridian family that live in the central Florida area and were looking for a house on the coast (this time on Anna Maria Island) with the ability to dock our boat and store our boat trailer for a weekend family boating trip. The Sunshine Cottage itself is a beautiful, clean, well-kept home. If you are a family looking for a nice place to stay on Anna Maria Island, close to the beach and the downtown area, this will perfectly suit your needs. The pool is adequate (not under a screen) with a nice sunning area for a family and the yard is inviting though small. The dock is great for fishing off of and while we able to dock our boat (22 ft) there were no dock cleats or lift. Access to the Gulf is fantastic and the canal is plenty deep. Our main issue was storing the boat trailer. Before booking I contacted the owner and made our needs very clear and was told we would have parking for our boat trailer. We contacted the location we were told would be fine to store our trailer a couple months before our trip and they said we would NOT be able to park it there. We were then told we could park the trailer on the lawn. Only the fact that we were able to physically take a day trip over to the island and do a drive by saved our weekend- the lawn is incredibly tiny, the driveway and garage can barely hold two cars. The owner eventually found another location for us to park the trailer (by that time we had already found a solution and did not use it), but communication was drawn out and stilted. I am thankful that we took steps before the day of our arrival because it would have ruined our weekend to drive all the way over there with a boat trailer and no place to park it- something I would not want to deal with the day of arrival. To re-cap: the house is beautiful and great for a family (new kitchen with all appliances, washer/dryer), the pool is adequate (though it ran a little cold and we did not receive much help from the owner for using the heater), and the dock is adequate and the location excellent for the Gulf. The garage and driveway is TINY, so no large vehicles and no more than 2 total. The house location on the island in relation to the beach and downtown area is great, so even if we couldn't have used our boat we would've had a good time. The island is FULL of rental properties so we will keep looking for a house that will better suit all our needs.

Very nice and comfortable

The house was nice and very clean The pool was nice but the temp was cold It did not feel like 83 degrees but very nice place to relax and talk with family We had an enjoyable time and glad it was close enough to the store, restaurants and beach. Will certainly keep in mind if we return to the island again.

Great location

Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. We have a family of five and so the house was perfect. The kids enjoyed the pool as we relaxed with the view of the canal. The home was decorated well and there were all the comforts of home. The bikes were fun! Our only complaints were that toilet paper was not supplied (and not well noted on the website). The beds were ok. Pillows could have been better. A good night's rest is important to me! Thank you for the stay!

A beautiful house in a beautiful location.

The house is stunning clean and ideally located for a wonderful holiday on a glorious island. The gardens pool and outside seating and views are glorious. The house is internally furnished to a lovely standard and 2mins from beach on bay side and walkable beach on gulf side. Well stocked with chairs snd other equipment. Well air conditioned would certainly return here.

Fantastic trip!

We could not have asked for a better cottage or location! The only complaint we had was with the AC ... It kept going up and we would get hot and have to turn it back down even through the night. Other than that... we LOVED every minute of our stay and could not have asked for a better place! And the landscaping was incredible It was a little slice of paradise for a week.

This is an outstanding home and a great place top stay

Nothing bad to say. From getting the key to walking in the door... everything was outstanding. I had a few questions come up and the owners were quick to respond and address any questions. This was a great place to spend time with our family and we truly enjoyed everyday. It went by to quick.
