A very strange place. It has been taken over so all the good reviews are from the previous owners. It was clean but there were stains on the carpet and cobwebs on the strange hanging ornament. The heating did not work properly so the room was cold ( I had a sleeping bag otherwise I would not have slept). On entry, after self check in, the porch light did not work and there was mail on the side. All the rooms go off a central corridor with no windows so as a lone female traveller this accommodation did not feel safe.

When entering the hotel we were quite disappointed with what we found. The room was not up to standards. The room does not look remotely like any of the photos listed, and it also has a horrible smell of stale cigarettes. The duvet had no cover over it, and there were crumbs and stains over the duvet and pillows. The whole room looked like it had not been cleaned for a long time, with dust caked on the floor under the chairs. The rug on the floor was so dirty, and so were the decorative pillows on the bed, This place looks good in the photos online, with good reviews, but it now looks rundown

No hot water available for showering, strong cigarette smell upon entering the house, noise during the night including people banging doors, difficulty locking/ unlocking the doors. The positive reviews gave us a false impression when we decided to book the room.

Room was tired but clean. Arrival instructions could have been clearer as I was sent a code but not a room number but this was quickly rectified by calling. This facility is NOT STAFFED at night, which I didn’t realise when I booked. Lots of people seemed to be talking in the stairwell through the night including a visit from police.

OK, so this isn't a hotel, it may have been previously but its not anymore, you get the key from the key box (I had to call to get the code, the person on the end of the phone was super helpful) then head in, its tired, very tired, I had the deluxe room and I am not sure what was deluxe about it, the room is dated, the TV is the smallest I have ever seen and was resting on some books, feels like a bedsit and feels very unloved, would I stay again, No.

It was a lovely stay. The area is quiet and close (5-10 minutes walk) to Brooklands tram stop and a few minutes walk from shops and cafes. The area is also safe at night. The hotel owner/manager/staff are extremely friendly and kind and generous. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The shower was good and spacious. The toilet was a little cramped between the wall and the shower but otherwise the bathroom was fine. The room heating worked well. The room was cozy with carpeting and a rug. The mattress was comfortable. The TV was easy to use. There were two comfortable chairs in front of the TV and I had coffee, tea and a kettle in the room. Overall, I was very happy with the stay, the cleanliness and the service.

NOT WORTHY OF 9.4 RATING

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but I feel compelled to in this case to help maintain standards. This property currently holds a 9.4 rating on the site—possibly the highest-rated place I’ve ever booked. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect that score. The property was in poor condition. The entrance was a mess, with what appeared to be weeks' worth of mail piled behind the door. There was no lighting upon arrival, which made the first impression even worse. The room had a strong, unpleasant odour that I couldn’t quite identify so much so I expected my clothes to smell of it this was despite leaving the window fully open for hours. The shower didn’t work properly in fact was useless. The carpets were stained and looked extremely grubby, which added to the overall sense of neglect and lack of cleanliness. There was barely any toilet roll but there was half used bottles of toiletries, soap and creams etc. All in all, it was a very disappointing stay and certainly did not live up to the high rating it has received. Again if this had a score 6 I would not be writing this but it was 9.4. How it's managed this I have no idea. I can only imagine that the previous reviews and scores are manipulated. The property itself is great and in a great location with parking but they need to up their game to justify such a high score.

I stayed in room 3. Car park was difficult to find when tired and received no instructions it was round the back off other roads.Unusual set up place not staffed so key in a locked box. Cons: Place very tired and in desperate need of renovations. My room itself was weird with weird origami swans glued to wall, rubbish down the radiator. Lights in bathroom only one worked and there are bathroom rugs covering the fact the floor wasn’t tiles on one half and it’s only concrete board. The shower had tikes held up with tape and the shower basin creaked when you stood on it. Weird collection of used toiletries left in the bathroom. Decor tired and damaged. Pros: responsive when I asked for milk as was only left 2 Great steady WiFi connection and a large TV. Great location. Overall would not stay in that room again others did look a lot better on the pictures but had sold out by the time I booked.

Conveniently located and comfortable. Check-in is remote, which I hadn't noticed before arriving at a locked door, but a phone call was immediately answered with all I needed to know, phew! 2 sachets of milk for a three-night stay.

A good stay at the Cornerstones Guest House

A very good stay, the room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was clean and had natural ventilation, the bed was comfortable. The guest house was close to the centre of Sale and was easy to get to the bars and restaurants. We would recommend staying there and if we come back to Sale we would stay here again

Quirky house & very quiet. Struggled to find it as parking was on a different road at the back. I think was supposed to be a shared bathroom but found a newly installed one in the room. Apart from not being able to get the shower warm enough all good 😊

Not recommend

In poor state. Dirty toilet with skid marks and one towel used when we first arrived. Tiny double bed with only one duvet and one sheet, which they had arranged horizontally as it was for two people. Did not work in practice, especially since it was no heat and therefore very cold at night. The radiator did not work and could not be adjusted. Also, the shower had low pressure and there were no fridge. Only good thing is location if you are going to Old Trafford and MAN airport.

This property was perfect for our needs, working at a conference in the city. We arrived 9pm and left early both days, so just needed a place to sleep. Private carpark round the rear of property. Close to metro (tram) stop and an easy 20 minutes by car from the city centre (less for Salford Quays or Old Trafford). Apart from check-in we never saw anyone during our weekend stay. Host was contactable by mobile if we needed (which we didn't). Self service breakfast provided (cereals) as under new management so the kitchen was not up and running for serving breakfast. Totally silent at night, so we slept really well. Comfortable temperature all night on a very stormy wet weekend. Would definitely stay again if working an event in Manchester.

I have been to many hotels/guesthouses and I make sure they are 4 star minimum. I fail to understand how this is a 4 star accommodation. I booked for 2 nights, I entered the building to check in and rules were being told to me. ‘You cannot eat fast food in your room we ask you kindly to eat in the cafe where cutlery is provided’… very unusual for a 4 star not to let you eat in your room. Now the room, it had a runner on top for show but on closer inspection it felt like it had it’s been used a few times unwashed from the looks. The en suite the washroom smelt AWFUL gutter smell ..DISGUSTING. So now here comes the most serious and unprofessional part. Check out time was 10.30am. My wife and I were staying in the accommodation, I was showering and the owner knocked on 10.30 sharp at the door, my wife opened whilst I was in the shower and he tapped his watch and said time to check out. My wife said just a moment, I came out at 10.40 and then the owner knocked on the door and was shouting you are 15 minutes overtime and knocking on the door saying time to leave. My wife opened the door just to say we are closing bags and leaving he was force opening the door and said let me see and my wife was preventing him coming. 15 mins later he comes again storms in and says time to leave and lifts a hand luggage out of the room and being shouted out LEAVE and being tagged as IRRESPONSIBLE’ I was shocked, It felt like the owner was letting me live for free and now kicking me out! V.BAD
