We chose Pik Palace Shahdag, a Marriott Bonvoy hotel, for our honeymoon expecting a premium 5-star experience — but it turned out to be a major disappointment.
Right from the start, the AC in our room didn’t work. At this level, you expect basic comforts to be guaranteed, especially when you’re paying premium prices. We reported it immediately and someone from engineering came at midnight, assuring us it was fixed. But the AC never worked, and we spent the entire first night feeling hot and suffocated.
The next morning, we again requested help and asked for a room change. Shockingly, they offered us a room without a balcony or mountain view — even though we had paid 100 manat extra (double what we should have) for a balcony and view. This was unacceptable.
We stayed in the room the entire next day until 9 PM, still dealing with the broken AC and no proper solution. After multiple complaints and reminders, they finally moved us — late at night, right before our final morning checkout.
While the final room was fine, it came too late. Both our nights were ruined, especially the first — a night we’ll never get back. The mismanagement, overcharging, and lack of urgency from a so-called 5-star hotel was shocking.
I would not recommend Pik Palace Shahdag to anyone, especially not for a special occasion. You’re paying for luxury but receiving careless service and discomfort instead.
