If you're not up to a full-day trek at altitude but you still want to get a taster of the spectacular landscapes to be found within the Huascaran National Park in central Peru, the stunning Pastoruri Glacier is the trip for you. It's the only glacier in the world accessible by road, and the base of it stands at 5050 metres above sea level. It's a short 1 hour hike from the car park (and another hour back), or you can hire a mule to save your legs (and your breath!)
