Alto Guadalquivir
Córdoba is famous for its patio festival in May where private patios are opened to the public for 2 weeks in a competition. This one is one of my favorites on calle san bailio 44 and this year it was open and free even in June so it's worth stopping by outside of May to see these secret patios.
2,100 year old bridge, now a pedestrian walkway. The bridge was heavily reconstructed in the 10th century by the Moors, and their handiwork is largely what we see today. Standing guard over the bridge is the 12th Calahorra Tower.
My all-time favorite church. Pictured here is the hypostyle hall, built from 784-987 when the building served as the Great Mosque of Córdoba. 856 double-arched columns create an expansive space for prayer and worship. Many of the columns were salvaged from Roman structures throughout Iberia, while the arches were inspired by those in the Dome of the Rock.

Fortunately for us, when Ferdinand III of Castile conquered the city in 1284 he kept the mosque largely intact, electing to build chapels inside the existing structure rather than tear it down and start anew. Eventually, a Renaissance nave was constructed in the 16th century, but even then King Charles V is said to have commented, "they have taken something unique in all the world and destroyed it to build something you can find in any city."
