The Highland Rose Retreat is a newly constructed 2-bedroom suite in Portland's Sylvan Highlands Neighborhood that is available for extended stays (30+ days). Less than five minutes from the historic Oregon Zoo and adjacent Washington Park, ride the park shuttle (seasonal) to see all that it offers. Explore winding roads through the West Hills, then drop down West Burnside for an award winning meal. Return to the comfort of your home away from home to relax before you do it all again tomorrow.
The space

The Highland Rose Retreat is a contemporary 2-bedroom guest suite. It is warm and welcoming to keep you comfortable during your extended stay in Portland. There are queen beds in the bedrooms, a sleeper chair in the living room (twin) and a pack and play for the littlest guest. The kitchenette has an induction hot plate, counter top oven and microwave for easy meals, as well as a full size refrigerator and dishwasher. The LARGE backyard offers plenty of room for zoomies, a firepit and new saltwater hot tub. This property is owner occupied but managed by Place Property Management.

  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud.
