We want guests to feel relaxed from the moment they arrive, so we offer self check-in and give you plenty of space to enjoy your stay at your own pace. That said, we’re always nearby if you need anything and are very happy to help with local recommendations, walking routes, cycle paths, beaches, places to eat or tips on making the most of the area.

Afan Forest Retreat is not just for experienced mountain bikers — although the famous trails are right on the doorstep for those who want them. Many of our guests simply come to slow down, enjoy the fresh air and explore the beautiful mix of forest, valleys and coastline that makes this part of South Wales so special.

There are scenic walking and cycling routes nearby, including the easy cycle path leading towards Aberavon Beach, making the area ideal for relaxed rides, dog walks and family adventures as well as more adventurous days out. Bike hire is also available locally if you’d prefer to travel light.

If you fancy a night off cooking, The Refreshment Rooms — a beautifully restored old railway station pub and restaurant — is just a short walk away and very popular with both locals and visitors.

The area is famous for its mountain bike trails and walking routes, with Afan Forest Park attracting visitors from across the UK. But you don’t need to be an experienced rider to enjoy staying here. There are also scenic cycle paths and gentler walking routes nearby, including the easy traffic-free route leading towards Aberavon Beach, making the area great for casual cycling, dog walks and family adventures too.

The living area is warm and inviting, with comfortable seating and a log burner that makes the cottage especially cosy during cooler evenings. After a day on the trails, at the beach or out exploring the valleys, many guests love returning to put their feet up, enjoy a quiet evening and unwind with a film or a good meal.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking at home, whether you’re preparing a quick breakfast before heading out for the day or enjoying a slower evening meal back at the cottage. There’s also space to gather together comfortably after busy outdoor days.

Most guests find having a car useful for exploring the wider area, nearby beaches, waterfalls, market towns and attractions across South Wales. However, many local walks, cycle routes and places to eat can also be reached directly from the property without needing to drive.

The scenic cycle path running through the valley offers an easy route towards Aberavon Beach and surrounding areas, making it ideal for casual cycling, dog walks and outdoor adventures at a slower pace.

For guests travelling by train, Port Talbot Parkway station is within driving distance and offers connections to Cardiff, Swansea and London. Cardiff Airport is also reachable by car for guests travelling from further afield.
