Fabulous place

Place was clean,spacious and kitchen was well equipped. The pool was an extra bonus and it was well used by entire family in the hot Texas heat. . I highly recommend this place as a family getaway. The communication between owner and myself was easy and fast.

Whatabarndo was the perfect getaway!!

This was the perfect size property for my family of 15. The location was nice and serene and very relaxing. Both the main house and guest house was very beautiful and clean upon arrival. Communication with the property owner, Skip, was very prompt and informative. The pool and spa were a hit with everyone as well as the game room and pool table! Plenty of outside seating. Would most definitely book this property again!!!

Beautiful property. Not clean, I had to clean especially the kitchen. Could not use game room, strong odor, very noisy night due to high winds & spinners on roof. Also, had too dust furniture. Nice pool & outdoor area. Good location for us to visit family.

Serenity tucked away in a barndo!

My family of five and I stayed for 3 nights for a family getaway. When we first arrived, it was exactly as described. Beautiful and quiet! The place is so serene and out of the city. We swam in the pool, enjoyed the scenery, played life size connect 4, the old school Atari and pool table was a big hit with the husband!! We cooked meals in the kitchen and grilled steaks on the flattop grill and even enjoyed time on the back porch listening to the rain when a storm came through on our last night. The kitchen was stocked with all the accessories and utensils we needed. The double faucet kitchen sink with drying racks is perfect for cooking, washing and drying. The nearest grocery store is only 8 miles, so a quick trip for groceries and we had all we needed. The decor gives a perfect Texas country feel. Smart TVs in every room for evening shows and the tv on the back porch with morning coffee was relaxing. Complimentary bathroom toiletries, laundry supplies and the kitchen is stocked with complimentary soap, dishwash detergent, trash bags, coffee supplies and even pancakes with syrup that we enjoyed on our first morning! Our host, Skip, was amazing at communication with me and so friendly. We HIGHLY recommend Whatabarndo for a peaceful vacation and hopefully we will be back soon to enjoy it again!

Graduation Weekend

Rented this property for a group of high school graduates. It was a perfect set up. Plenty to do, space to spread out and comfortable sleeping. Plenty of Privacy for late nights and music. I would definitely recommend. We had a great time.

Perfect Private Getaway Home!

We had the pleasure of booking a getaway to the country for a large group of 12 adults (late 20s & 30a) and 2 kiddos. There was plenty of space for 6 couples and the little ones to sleep, sit, and relax. We spent the majority of our stay poolside, but spent late evenings playing games and hanging out indoors. Having the separation of space for the main home and guest house worked out perfect so that we had an additional space to not worry about noise and waking up the kids. All amenities were put to use from the outdoor grill, to kitchen + cookware, games, pool table etc. Towels, and toiletries were a relief to our group as well! Beds were comfortable and the home stayed cool! (even during triple digit heat wave) Skip really thought of everything for the perfect weekend getaway. He provided easy to follow instructions and was also quick to respond for any questions that we had. We will most definitely be planning future stays at Whatabarndo!

Fantastic Family Getaway at the Barndominium

Our recent stay at the Barndominium was absolutely fantastic. Skip's exceptional service and communication throughout the booking process and during our stay ensured that our extended family get-together over a long weekend was perfect. The Barndominium created an ideal setting for relaxation and quality family time. The well-maintained pool offered refreshing relief from the Texas heat and the game room with a pool table provided endless entertainment for all. The separate houses on the property allowed each family member to have their own space while fostering togetherness. We were impressed by Skip's attentiveness and dedication to ensuring a seamless experience, making us feel valued and well taken care of. We would not think twice about staying here again.

Our Wedding Weekend

Skip and his property are both incredible! Whatabarndo was perfect for us. We booked last minute as a last minute change to better accommodate our family for the weekend. My wife and I we're married on Saturday April 1st in Emory. Skip walked me through everything and made it all happen with ease. Property is clean and quiet, we all had plenty to do between the games and the pool. The property is definitely a one of a kind and is worth a few nights or as long as you'd like stay. You will not be disappointed either way.

Cozy Thanksgiving Retreat

Great place to accommodate all of our family during Thanksgiving! There was plenty of cooking supplies and ovens to make all of our meal items. We were looking forward to spending time outside and taking in the beautiful 11 acres but it rained almost the entire time we were there. Instead we played games, played pool in the game room and watched football games on TV which was fun! We did get to squeeze in yummy s'mores by the fire pit the first night we were there. My college aged daughter has finals coming up and escaped over to the private office to study in a quiet place away from our loud family! LOL! A hot shower felt super nice at the end of the day with awesome water pressure along with a very comfortable mattress on the bed to sleep at night. We would definitely stay again possibly in warmer months to enjoy the pool and spend more time outside this time. Thank you Skip for opening your home to us! We made some great memories!

Family Reunion

We were looking for a great place to enjoy visiting with our family--we wanted a central location in East Texas. This was perfect! The houses/property were exactly as billed and very clean. 40th birthday celebration

This property is amazing! I through my boyfriend a 40th bday celebration family and his friends were so amazed and fascinated with the beautiful pool and spa area, and the feel on being at a resort but nope we are in Texas at Whatabarndo!! I would recommend everyone stay here. Skip is really awesome and communicates so well. My boyfriend said this was the best birthday ever!! 🥰🥰🥰 Book it now!!!

SUCCESS! Secluded Getaway For a Large Group of Friends

Had a group of 11 college friends who wanted to get together near DFW… most listings were too “suburban”, but the Whatabarndo looked like an oasis just a short drive outside of DFW. Skip was extremely responsive and friendly leading up to and during the stay. Upon arrival we realized there wasn’t anything that this house DIDN’T have. The Main house and guest house each featured comfortable sleeping quarters, a kitchen that could prepare scratch meals, Full Bathrooms and Washer/dryers. The backyard was what made the place though: comfy seating, a crystal clear, well-maintained pool, and so much space to run around, play games, or sit around the fire pit. We did all of the above. It’d be great for any age group to get together - especially a families with kids. We ended up buying way too much food to take out there but at least we didn’t run out. The only thing to consider is there there aren’t many restaurants/bars nearby. Our group did, however, make a 30 minute drive out to BackStory Brewing in Sulphur Springs and would highly recommend it for quality and quantity of beers and EXCEPTIONALLY great food (authentic Mexican seafood, burgers and wings). Would recommend bringing extra pool towels and coolers for outdoor use but fridge space was plentiful. Thanks again, Skip!!

Relaxing Stay! Whatabarndo!

Skip was very responsive and accommodating for our stay. The barn was clean and tidy upon arrival. We had a great time playing in the large field behind the barn - plenty of space to throw the football and frisbees. I would definitely stay here again. One note: You're in the country... bring bug spray! :) Thankfully we had spray so we could enjoy being outside around dusk. Thanks Skip!

This property was filthy

The set up of the house was great. A main house & guest house. Plenty of beds. That’s all the good I can say. The pool was green in spots. My son spent over an hour cleaning it so the children could swim. The grass was so tall we couldn’t play our outside games we brought. I spent over 2 hours & used a whole carton of Lysol Wipes cleaning so we felt comfortable. Every inch of the outside tables were sticky. I did contact the host several times. I asked for his cleaning person to come back to clean. He refused me. He did give me a refund on my cleaning deposit. He does not need to rent this property again until it is professionally cleaned.

Work sales meeting/get away

I rented this place for 7 of us that work together to have a small sales meeting/get away. This place was exactly what we where looking for, nice clean pool, spacious enough for 7 grown men to have enough space apart and also with a great layout for us to be together. Booking it was easy and communication with owner was quick and easy. We would definitely look at coming back again.
