"The hotel room was clean. I asked for the eco service but still didn’t receive towels. At check-in I felt very rushed. As I was entering my information, I was asked for my passport, then in reaching for my passport they wanted me typing my information. Three front desk staff talking and explaining while checking in. Difficult getting a taxi. Anytime I went to the desk I was treated like I was bothering them. After traveling throughout Japan, this is not the hospitality of other top Japanese...

"This is a beautiful Japanese traditional lodging with two shared and a private onsen. It is close to the Yudanaka station and Lawson convenient store. With two kids, we stayed in a large family room with a living room and a bathroom (toilet only). The kids enjoyed watching Japanese kids show in the living room and the grown-ups can relax on the tatami next door. The breakfast and dinner are amazing. "The room was clean, the bathroom and shower were a bit run down but usable. If you plan to ski or eat at Nozawa Onsen it makes it very difficult. The first shuttle from Togario Onsen to Nozawa is at 9:24am and the last one was o round 4pm. No taxi after 6, so you cannot eat dinner in Nozawa staying here. While it is not the hotels responsibility, it made dining options very limited. The front desk staff was unfriendly, apart from the hosts wife who tired her best to arrange accommodation. "

"Hotel housei was my favorite stay in Japan, even after spending triple as much money for some other hotels. The staff is simply amazing, they went above and beyond for accommodation. Kei at the front desk was very helpful in showing me around the hotel & also recommended a restaurant that was one of my favorite I’ve been to. "Property had exposed knob and tube, which is a fire hazard for this kind of structure. Due to the age of the inn, there is no insulation. Rooms must be heated with space heaters which further increases the risk of fire. The accumulation of dust and various other contaminants triggered allergic reactions to several members of my family. On a positive note, food was very authentic and delicious. The comments and reviews need to reflect the condition of this inn."

"A cozy onsen ryokan with very attentive and helpful male staff. I was truly impressed by his excellent service and will definitely return for another stay. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Although the onsen is not very large, it offers both indoor and outdoor baths and was pleasantly quiet with few people around."
