Adorable Cottage By the Sea - Ocean View - 1/2 Block Walk to Beach - Fenced Yard

We’d love for your happy beach memories to be made here at our cottage by the sea, The Whimsy Whale.

Our island cottage is perfectly placed under a canopy of magnificent live oaks, just steps away from the ocean. Nestled on a quiet beach access street, central to all the best attractions, shopping and eateries on Oak Island; close to nearby Southport. Public sidewalks along E Oak Island Drive make it easy to walk or bike to your favorite spots.

Our classic cottage has been recently renovated and cheerfully decorated. With 1212 square feet and an open floor plan, there is plenty of space for you to comfortably relax. There are two living/entertaining areas in the home, both centrally connected through the galley kitchen. Two bedrooms provide enough sleeping arrangements for 4 guests. The master bedroom offers a queen bed, television and private en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom offers two twin beds (one is a trundle with an extra memory foam topper). Two full bathrooms with walk-in showers. Linens are provided (sheets, towels/washcloths) along with shampoo and soap. A full-size washer and dryer is available just off the master bedroom.

If you decide to cook in during your stay, the kitchen has all the essentials you’ll need - refrigerator, oven, microwave dishwasher, pots/pans, utensils, coffee pot, dishes. A roll of paper towels will be provided, along with dish soap and detergent.

Cable TV, wi-fi, bluetooth speaker along with some games, books and puzzles are available for your enjoyment.

The spacious fully-fenced backyard with hammock and outdoor seating offers the perfect place to relax while children and pets safely play. A deck off the side of the cottage faces the ocean - an ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee, enjoy dinner off the grill, or watch the sun set while listening to the relaxing sounds of the nearby ocean. A private, outdoor shower is available. Driveway parking available.

The Whimsy Whale cottage is family owned and operated. It is one of our favorite places to spend time together and we look forward to sharing it with you, your loved ones and friends.

Wonderful relaxing visit!

The Whimsical Whale was a delightful place to stay and very close to the beach. The name is perfect as the entire cottage has whimsical decorations! The beds and couches were super comfy and the appliances were the nicest I have ever seen in a rental home. We would rent it again in a heartbeat! Me, my husband, and our fur baby can’t wait to return!

Magical Cottage

WOW!!

Believe the pictures, descriptions and all the other reviews. This is one of the very best vacation rentals I have stayed at - Angela thinks of everything to keep her guests comfy. Even though the cottage would be lovely if you bring a dog, we didn't and you could not tell at all that doggies had been there - so no concern about it being pet friendly. One of the highlights we enjoyed the most was the lovely furnished deck under the oak trees - you could feel the ocean breezes!! Just a perfect welcoming cottage in a great location.

Clean and adorable cottage

This was our second time in 2023 we stayed at the cottage. Owner is super easy to work with and most of all it is always so clean. Fenced in back yard is perfect for our two golden retrievers- and you can hear and see the ocean from the yard. Hope to return again in 2024.

Great spot for a week at the beach

This is a totally charming cottage in a great location! Loved having more than one living area and the decor was cute and well thought out. Everything was very clean, and house rules were reasonable. Appreciated having some backyard space for the dog. This cottage is a block from public beach access so could not be better located. Great value for the cost.

Relaxing at the Whimsey Whale

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in The Whimsey Whale Cottage for a week. It was a 3 to 4 minute easy walk to the beach with no busy road to cross (done that before!) The neighborhood is so quiet and the cottage sits in such a pretty place behind the trees. I loved all the pretty colors inside and the layout was great.We would like to stay again.

Amazing Cottage

The cottage was just awesome. SUPER CLEAN and all the amenities a person could need. Host is great to work with and responds quickly with answers to any questions. My two Golden Retrievers just loved the back yard - and super handy to just open the back door and let them do their business. Very quiet neighborhood and only a 2 minute walk to ocean.

Charming home

Our family, and pup, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The shady, fenced yard is huge and our dog loved not having to be on a leash for potty time while on vacation. The living area was more than comfy for our family of four and we had everything we needed for a comfy stay. Super quick walk to the beach and pier.

Beautiful cottage by the beach

The whimsy whale was ideal for our stay. The house is simply cozy and beautifully furnished. It is equipped with everything you could think of or need. House has large back yard that is fenced in and shaded by several large trees, our dogs loved the yard especially the shade. The backyard comes with very nice outdoor shower which makes coming in from the beach so efficient and convenient. The house is very short walk to beach (house has a beach cart as well as chairs and towels), Neighborhood is nice and quiet. We hope to return
