Now a central district in the Nice metropolitan area, Riquier has become a residential area. Its buildings include blue-collar blocks built in the 1920s, contemporary residences and a few surviving 19th and early 20th century buildings. Notable examples include the Palais de l'Esplanade on Place de l'Armée du Rhin, Place Arson with its arcades and petanque courts, the old buildings on the port side of Rue Arson, several palaces on Rue Barla, the Maison Torrini and the Palais Antoine on Rue Leotardi, and the Palais Bella Nizza on Boulevard Antoine-Risso. The Riquier district is home to many national and international retailers, including the large shopping complex on boulevard Delfino Nice TLN. A green district, it boasts pleasantly landscaped squares such as Place Arson, Place des Cigalusa and the Nice TLN green spaces. Just a stone's throw from Place Garibaldi, the district is also close to Nice Acropolis, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Paillon green corridor.
