The Wreigh Burn Just below the confluence with the Netherton Burn. The arc of reeds in the foreground marks the site of a former stream bed or oxbow lake.

Dam and fish ladder, Netherton Pond The dam holding back Netherton Pond was improved by Lord Armstrong of the Cragside estate when he acquired a nearby farm in 1879. The head of water was capable of driving a small hydro-electric turbine. A fish-ladder was also installed to allow sea trout and salmon to by-pass the dam. The whole structure is Grade II listed, and was restored in 1998.

Pros - The building and grounds are beautiful. Staff are very friendly and service was efficient. Rooms clean, and spacious with good heating. Cons - Room in general just requires updating. Wardrobe door broken supposed to slide but you have to lift it to move it and it was heavy. A lot of the channels ...

One of the best cottages we have stayed in. Very well equipped. Very comfortable beds. Warm and cosy. This was our third visit and standards have been maintained.

A wonderful house, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. Close to the pub and a fantastic local store. Fabulous walks from the door. We had a great stay with friends at New Year.
