Heritage Stone House on the Rideau Canal

  • Fully renovated heritage home built in 1827 along the UNESCO designated Rideau Canal. Accommodates 10 adults in five bedrooms with room for an additional 4 children. Heritage Stables is just down the road, where you can book a variety of farm experiences. Kayak up to Merrickville for lunch, or sit on our large deck and watch the boats pass by. If you are bringing a pet you must add that information to your reservation. A $25 fee per stay will be automatically added to the cost of your stay.

    *35 min from Canadian Tire Center - for all your sports and concert entertainment

    The space
    The main floor includes a large family room with a TV, coat closet, full bathroom, 2 bedrooms, open kitchen and dining room. The 2nd bedroom can be converted to an open space or 2nd living room to host larger gatherings and events. The second floor includes 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, a reading nook, a laundry room and access to the large 2nd floor deck.

    Guest access
    The entire house and 4 acres property are all yours. There are no neighbors on either side or across the street. Access to the Rideau Canal is a short walk down a path to Clowes Locks. Our farm, Heritage Stables, is a short 3 minute walk away.

    Other things to note
    Historical property with character and charm that transports you back in time. Original hand-crafted woodwork and period furniture coupled with the convenience of modern kitchen and bathroom facilities.

It's a beatiful fully equipped Georgian house with plenty of parking. The back has a view of the Rideau Canal. Jake, the host was very gracious and helpful.

We came back for a third year in a row, and we had a wonderful time again this year.The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It was great for getting in the sauna early in the morning, or in the evening, we recommend it 10/10. Also, we were able to use the kayaks every day…and the skies cleared up for us to enjoy the spectacular moonrise, reflected on the river while sitting by the fire pit!Once again, we have made happy memories with our family who visited us from Andrewsville and Ottawa.Thank you so much for being such attentive hosts.

It is a beautifully welcoming Heritage home with all of the ammenities to run like an efficient household during the visit. The outdoor space is exceptional with the wrap around deck and the second floor patio complete with a gazebo offering a beautiful veiw of the Rideau Canal. Definitly a highlight. The Host is tentative and available at all times.

Perfect for our family vacation

We were looking for a place to stay for a long weekend with family, and this was better than any we found from the listing alone. Upon arrival the building itself was an amazing piece of history, and despite being 200 years old it was the cleanest and best equipped vrbo we've stayed at. Everything you could need for an amazing vacation, from the kitchen to the dock, was here. Thanks to the owner Jake for the stay, we will definitely be coming back.

Amazing getaway!

We had a group of 11 of us looking for a place to stay close to Ottawa to celebrate a family birthday. Jake was an incredible host and checked in an appropriate number of times to see if we needed anything.The property is gorgeous, and the house itself is just fantastic! Would ABSOLUTELY stay here again!

This property is exceptional! It contained everything you might require and more. We had a good experience with the kayaks and being able to access the dock for fishing. The place was truly enjoyable for the children.

We had a lovely time staying at the property. There was so much character in this beautiful, old home. Each bedroom was spacious and the bathrooms were recently renovated. There was lots of social spaces and we really enjoyed sitting on the deck looking at the stars. The check-in and our processes were easy and we loved that there were so many little touches that made the stat super notable, like coffee, sugar, condiments and laundry soap. We would absolutely stay here again.

We had another truly wonderful time at your beautiful house this year, and we cherished making more happy memories with our family!The new features were a fantastic surprise – we loved the sauna and the trail down to the river, to the new dock, kayaks, and the opportunity for fishing.Thank you for being such awesome hosts. We are a senior couple who spent 3 nights at Jake’s cottage with 12 other senior friends of ours. We had a wonderful time and all facilities were excellent, as mentioned in the post. It was very easy communicating with Jake who was very patient with our queries and requests.

Unfortunately, we never found time to take advantage of all the amenities, but to unwind at the end of our busy days by relaxing under the stars in the quiet on the expansive upper and lower decks was magical. Everything we needed was there.

The host was responsive when we contacted him. All amenities were great. Well stocked (condiments, spices, coffee). Extra linens, kleenex, toilet paper. Very appreciated. It was chilly in the house but to be fair we were there on one of the coldest nights of the year. Below -30C. Would definitely recommend. In fact, one of our group will be booking a family trip there soon.

Beautiful and family friendly

We really enjoyed our stay! Gorgeous old house with so much original character. Lots for kids to do right out the back door. We also took advantage of the horseback riding offered by the host just down the road - the kids loved it. :) Well supplied with enough of everything (bedding, chairs, hot water, etc) for our group of 9.
