Maison du Four: Charming French village house with a balcony and a bakery just around the corner
Tucked away on a quiet little street behind the church in the charming town of Mirabel-aux-Baronnies lies Maison du Four: a stylish, fully restored French village house where you immediately feel like you’ve “truly” gotten away from it all. Inside, the house is light and open (with surprisingly few interior doors), and thanks to the wide, comfortable staircases, the space is pleasantly distributed across multiple floors.
On the first floor, you’ll find a cool bedroom with its own shower and toilet: ideal for hot summer days. One floor up is the kitchen-dining area with a fireplace: a lovely spot for cooking, reading, and enjoying long evenings at the table. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, and plenty of pots, dishes, and glassware. A favorite spot is the daybed next to the fireplace—perfect for an afternoon nap or reading a book with a glass of local wine.
The second floor is perhaps the highlight: a lovely, sheltered balcony with a sitting/dining area next to it, plus a second shower and toilet. On the balcony, you can dine al fresco, relax in the lounge chairs, and enjoy the sweeping views of the village and the hills, with the mountains (including La Lance and L’Angel) in the background.
Upstairs is a loft/mezzanine with a lounge sofa that can be converted into a full-size bed with a slatted frame. This makes the house especially perfect for 2 adults, and potentially suitable for 3 people.
Another plus: within a 3-minute walk, you can pick up fresh croissants in the morning at two bakeries and stop by a small grocery store. Just take a short walk through the village, and your day will start in true French style.
There’s no TV, but there is Wi-Fi—ideal if you’re looking for some peace and quiet but still want to stay connected. The house also has plenty of information on hikes, bike routes, and day trips in the area. From Mirabel, it’s an easy drive to Vaison-la-Romaine (with Roman ruins) or to Nyons (home to a large Provençal market). The region is known for its wine and charming wine cellars in villages such as Vinsobres, Roaix, Séguret, and Sablet.
