    The Mermaid's House:

    The Mermaid's House is the perfect West Marin getaway. Located on the waterfront of pristine Tomales Bay, it is an ideal spot to relax and unwind. The house is literally built out over the water, so there is nothing between you and the picturesque Point Reyes National Seashore as you gaze out through the giant glass windows.

    The Mermaid's House offers amazing views of the abundant birdlife that inhabits Tomales Bay and it is not uncommon to spot a seal or two swimming by to say, "hello." The house, nautically themed, creates the illusion that you are traveling aboard a lavish ship, without the seasickness of course. The spacious interior of the house has an air of tasteful class while maintaining a cozy rustic feel.

    Complete with a grassy front yard, large deck with a hot tub, and its own pier, the Mermaid's House is also well equipped for outdoor living. Whether you spend your time in West Marin hiking in the park, kayaking on the bay, or just relaxing, the Mermaid's House is the perfect setting to enjoy some world famous oysters, have a drink, and look out across the bay as the sun sets.

    Amenities: Jacuzzi/jet outdoor spa, gas log fireplace, Wi-Fi (wireless internet), phone (free long distance within the continental US), 32" Sharp flat screen satellite TV, stereo/CD player, fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, barbecue, deck tables and chairs, teakwood "steamer" reclining deck chairs. *(No smoking. Sorry, no young children: due to the location of the house over the water. No pets: due to the sensitive nature of the environment.) **(Sorry, we cannot accommodate large gatherings or parties.)

Amazing location and super fun rustic boat like feel on tamales bay in pt reyes. Host was helpful and house had everything we needed including a hot tub with the best view around!

Awesome location, house, and views

We loved our stay here. It was the perfect get away from the valley heat. The house (Admiral’s Quarters) was lovely and so inviting. We can’t wait to stay there again!

As usual, Karen was very welcoming and informative on check in and out procedures. We were there over Christmas and much to our surprise there was a fully lit and decorated tree to welcome us along with Christmas decorations around the house. It doesn't get any better than that!

Our Happy Place on Tomales Bay

Another delightful stay. The new hot tub was terrific. So peaceful sitting in the living room looking out at the bay. Many pelicans flew by this time!

We spent a fantastic week at the Admiral's quarters. Swimming and paddleboarding from the dock, soaking in the hot tub, enjoying the view from the deck and the house. So much to do nearby. Great meals at the Marshall Store and Tony’ Seafood. And cooking at the house worked well.Karen was a responsive and helpful host. We look forward to coming back.

A Perfect Getaway

This is a beautifully maintained bay front cottage. Gorgeous views, great/comfortable furnishings, and close to Hog Island Oysters! The hot tub is also perfect for two and a wonderful way to wrap up the day. Close to lots of good trails, kayaking and eye-popping drives. It truly is a perfect getaway!

Relaxing and Reflective Stay

We had a wonderful stay and was both rejuvenating and reinvigorating - and all that we wanted to "get away" from it all. All amenities, views of the bay, proximity to cycling, hiking, kayaking, restaurants - all were perfect to enjoy Nature's Bounty. Owners are wonderful and responsive. Romantic Weekend on the Bay

Gorgeous, well appointed private cottage right on - in some places over - the water. Fantastic views through all the windows overlooking the Bay - watching birds, boaters and changing tides. We had a wonderful time - the deck lounge chairs and hot tub were wonderful. Great restaurants, fresh oysters & artisan cheese are all just a short distance away. We had a wonderful stay!

Happy to return !

Our second visit within a few months. We love visiting Point Reyes and this delightful place puts us close enough to do that but also right on Tomales Bay which we love. With Tony’s Seafood and Hog Island Oysters practically next door we are well fed as well.

A great getaway

This was an excellent getaway for our anniversary. Beautiful views looking up and down the bay. Sitting right on the water, looking west, we had great afternoons on the deck. Located near good eating spots, and a short drive to all the myriad of hikes. A well appointed house with all the amenities. Fred is a responsive and thoughtful host.

Ideal Getaway

We spent three nights at the Admiral’s Quarters. It is a great place to stay while enjoying the Pt. Reyes/Tomales Bay area. The location is close to many attractions and has a beautiful view of the bay, particularly at sunset..The interior is charming and includes everything you need for a relaxing stay. The hosts, Fred and Karen, are good communicators and a pleasure to work with. This was our third stay, and we look forward to returning.

What is there to say about this home that hasn’t already been said? It’s truly a little piece of paradise and you couldn’t get closer to the water if you were on a boat. Comfy bed too! This was our second time here and we’ll be back again in the future.

Beautiful escape

We love hiking Point Reyes and eating oysters. Great location to base for both (Tony’s Seafood one mile away). The home is large and you feel like you are in an upscale houseboat. Beautiful nautical decor everything you need for a stay. Not for children as back deck not child safe.

Return to Among the Best of VRBO Rentals Ever

Stayed here multiple times over the years and this is among the best consistently of all those VRBOs we've experienced. Absolutely first class property, location, and hosts. It simply doesn't get any better short of owning the property yourself! On second thought, having owned a VRBO rental for 20 years, renting this property is better than owning one!

Wonderful Stay

My wife and I spent our 40th anniversary at the Mermaid House. Upon walking in the door, my wife cried out loud about how beautiful the place was. I know we sat for hours each day talking and looking out the window. We like to cook meals, and the kitchen has everything we need. We could not have been happier. Before we left, my wife stated we would return here someday.

Paradise

We’ve enjoyed the Admirals Quarters once again. This time the weather was perfect and after hiking Point Reyes we were able to enjoy the deck listening to the tide come in. When it couldn’t get any better a flock of pelicans zoomed right by us. A few dozen oysters at Tony’s, back to the unit, turn up the fire. Doesn’t get any better than this!
