With a gorgeous top-to-bottom renovation that was completed in 2020 and sporting new updates for 2023, this lakefront cottage in the heart of historic Lakeside is truly one of a kind. This modern home is situated on a mid-size bluff above Orchard Beach, a wide, 80-foot stretch of sand that's shared by association members only at the north end of a long, walkable beach on a natural cove of Lake Michigan. Enjoy access to a private beach cabana, with easy access to chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys to make your excursions on the shores truly memorable.

This contemporary home is full of style and natural light, offering new appliances and fixtures throughout, an open and airy great room, and a fully equipped kitchen with an extra-large island and stainless steel appliances - all of which contribute to the authentic, beach-house ambience. Come home from the lakeshore each afternoon to rinse off the sand in the refreshing outdoor shower, get the gas grill going on the raised deck, or simply play with your kids in the spacious yard. Leave your swimsuits to spin in the private washer/dryer, and spend the evening hours telling stories in the warmth of the firepit outside.

Parking notes: There is free parking available for 2 vehicles.

Please note: this home resides in a noise-sensitive area and the owners participate in our Good Neighbor protection program. Our smart home technology will alert our team if excessive decibel or occupancy levels are detected, allowing us to reach out directly with a reminder of maximum occupancy and quiet hours. This technology is privacy compliant, and only monitors the presence of decibels and devices-not any personal conversation or information. Thank you for supporting our efforts to be good neighbors!

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

Great location, poor cleanliness and support. Dirt/crumbs/sand on floor. Bedroom comforters stained brown. Don't know how often this place is actually cleaned or maintained. After a shower in the master night 1, a strong rotten egg odor arose from the laundry room, which has access to, I assume, a basement/crawl space of sorts where a water heater/softener is located and main sewage drains. The smell was overwhelming. Contacted vacasa who said a local team would remedy it by morning and asked if I'd like contacted before they enter. I said yes. Come midday there had been no communication. I reached out again, to which I was told the local team would be taking care of it. The maintenance person texted me, apologizing but saying they "probably couldn't do anything about the odor" but would be happy to come by anyway, though they let the property owner know, who was "being proactive about it". I texted back asking if I should expect the property owner to be coming by. No response. I called with no answer. I was never contacted about this issue again. I don't know if it was resolved or not. We did not bathe the remaining 2 days of our stay for fear of the stench. I reached back out to vacasa support about not knowing whether or not anyone had been or planned to come by and they said they didn't know either. Overall, the location is premier. Lovely neighborhood with a quick trip to the private beach. Cleanliness and communication left more to be desired.

Property has ongoing septic and plumbing issues. The laundry closet off the primary bedroom emitted a horrible and strong sewage smell all but one of the nights of our stay. I was told there was a venting issue. Maintenance or plumbers were there three days but did not fully resolve the issue. There were additional plumbing issues as well with a sink making a jack hammer noise that was not resolved. I was in contact with customer every day of vacation which was frustrating. I was refunded two nights and a cleaning fee but only after I sent continuous messages to Vacasa. I don't feel this was sufficient. We were also offered another house for the night that wasn't beach front. We a paid for a beach house. Every time you contact them, you get a different representative and get canned answers back. There was allegedly a local representative but I never was in direct contact with them. The kitchen needs a restock on utensils, kitchen towels and coffee cups. The house has the potential to be an amazing experience but for the poor management and maintenance of the property. The beach is incredible and the cabana is convenient. The deck, patio and yard are very nice features.Overall, I would warn potential renters of any property managed by Vacasa.

Gate House Lakeside near Union Pier

Great property. As described. Everything done online - no property manager. Listing should state there is no cell phone service - it is a dead zone. Good internet connection. TV with Roku for those rainy days and lots of games. Cabana was private for the house and had a mini-fridge. Saved many trips up the stairs to the house. My family had a wonderful time.

Home was great and perfect location - vacasa was not helpful

I would totally give the property and location 5 stars, just as pictured! However, Vacasa was hard to get in touch with and did not provide timely communication and did not give details on the property. Really need a binder and local property manager especially with limited cell coverage until you sign into wifi. Also, because of fees for vacasa and vrbo, rental rates were a bit misleading. Paid additional 60% of rack rate in fees& taxes. …shocking.

Fall break

We enjoyed our stay! It is an old house, but has been nicely renovated. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable, and location was terrific with easy access to a secluded beach. Kitchen was well stocked! Check in and check out we’re also very easy. Beach chairs and an exterior shower along with several board games were also a nice bonus. We would definitely stay here again when back in the area.
