Fresh, remodeled one bedroom, best unit in the building!

This double lanai, dual view top floor penthouse is absolutely over the top!

NOTE: You may have heard about Maui banning some vacation rentals. The County Council is voting to ban 7,000 units (out of the 14,000 total) from renting to tourists starting in July of 2025. Those units were originally zoned "Apartment" and had been grandfathered into tourist rentals. That grandfathering is being removed. The complete list of units which will be barred from renting to tourists is readily available if you do an internet search on "Minatoya List".

Our unit has never been on that list and has always been zoned Hotel/Business. If you reserve from us, rest assured you are in a legal, licensed unit in the appropriate zoning class.


Unit 606 is a very unique property. It was originally built as the developer of the building's private suite. Based on the size, spaciousness and views of the unit, he used it as a location to host cocktail parties and neighborhood gatherings. Over its life, the unit has had very few owners and mostly was used as a gathering space.

We recently purchased it and proceeded with a large scale remodel. The results are spectacular. New double pane glass to provide silence when you want, and huge doors to bring the outside in when you prefer.

Modern, fully updated spotless condo with TWO great views of the ocean. Because of the unique corner aspect of the unit, you also get views of Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains. There are only a handful of units in all of Kihei with these views. Everything is new, from the stainless appliance package to the front load washer and dryer, Egyptian cotton beach towels and super high quality linens. This unit is a huge one bedroom with nearly 1000 square feet of open, airy space.

-Two commanding ocean views from two different lanais: take in the outstanding view through the wall to wall, floor to ceiling glass wall in the living room/kitchen and a different view from the master bedroom
-completely remodeled: everything is new, including appliances, front load washer/dryer, furniture, bedding and all utensils, right down to the Henkel knives
-great, central location: walk to shopping, dozens of restaurants, beaches, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling and more. There are days we never use our car!

Every time we enter our condo, we are struck by how beautiful the views are. One wall of the living room is entirely made of glass, and the light fills the whole space. In addition, one wall of the master bedroom is glass also, with commanding views of the south Maui coastline. The glass has been replaced with thick double pane glass to provide quiet and to moderate the Maui sun. Most units haven't invested in the expense of new glass. At $22,000, I understand why, but the increase in comfort is extreme. I wouldn't rent a unit that did not have updated glass. The lanais are over 16 feet wide and provide a great space to hang out, watch the waves and surfers, and enjoy the tropical weather.

We have furnished our condo to be modern and comfortable. You will find full sized couch and chairs, a king sized bed, tons of storage, large closets. The kitchen is outfitted with a new whirlpool appliance suite including microwave, dishwasher, self cleaning glass topped range and refrigerator with ice maker. We even have special outlets that have USB chargers built into them. We provide top quality pans, knives and small appliances.

Free WiFi, phone calls to the US and Canada. A large flat screen TV in the living room and another flat screen in the bedroom. The living room has a blu ray player. There is a radio with a provided cord to plug in your ipad, ipod, iphone or MP3 player as well as a speaker that can connect to your phone or iPod via Bluetooth.

Island surf is in a great central location. Immediately to the north is a area the locals call 'the Triangle'. It has lots of shops and scores of restaurants and night spots. Across the street is Kalama park, offering playgrounds, roller hockey, volleyball, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and wide open spaces to play catch or just hang on the grass. You can watch your friends and family play in the surf right from the front room.

A short drive to the south puts you in the heart of Wailea with upscale dining, shopping and more wonderful beaches.

Island surf houses many great businesses. You can rent bicycles, get a manicure or spa treatment, book a scuba dive, rent surf boards, or eat a great plate lunch all without never leaving the building.

There is a pool and BBQ area on the second floor, both with ocean views.

Since we have two units in the building, and work with the owner of the unit adjacent to ours on the 6th floor, we can offer wedding party accommodations with berths for up to 12 people.

The unit has a king bed and we have a port a crib for an infant. The unit can handle two adults sharing the same bed and a toddler or an infant. Total of three guests.

We have a two bedroom/two bathroom unit in the same building. Some guests combine the units as they have family and friends come during their stay. The two bedroom unit is vrbo.com # 454560.

Island Surf Building is entirely NON SMOKING. Owners and guests are not allowed to smoke in units, on walkways, on Lanais or in common areas. There is one very small designated smoking area in a corner of the back parking lot. Quite honestly, if there is a smoker or vaper in your party, this is not a good fit for your vacation. My advice would be to seek other accommodations. Anyone found smoking in a restricted area is subject to a significant fine.

Small pets are allowed with prior written approval.

This condo is licensed for vacation rentals, Hawaiian tax id. #TA-042-517-0944-01. Beware of condo owners not providing their tax number, often they are scams or not licensed. If you are looking at a rental that does not provide their number, they are probably operating illegally. Please be careful, the state is enforcing these and you may find yourself without a place to stay when you arrive. Try googling 'nonpermitted vacation rentals target of enforcement' to see a recent article on the issue. Kauai recently closed 320 non-permitted vacation rentals with two weeks notice and all the guests were left without accommodations.

Had an amazing stay! Location is fantastic, as we parked our car and walked to shops, food and beaches. Condo was spacious and clean, with great ocean views. Owner communication was top notch! Had an issues with an A/C unit remote (was user error :/) in the middle of the night and he responded within 2-3 minutes. This was about 3am his time and took time to explain the remote to me. Highly recommend place!!

The views from the property were amazing and it was clean, well stocked with beach equipment and snorkel gear. Matt was very responsive before and during our stay. The town of Kihei is full of nice beaches and restaurants, and seems to be the happening place with Lahaina gone. South Maui Gardens, which is right behind the Island Surf building, is an amazing spot to grab food. Our favourite was the Thai Mee Up food truck. Make sure you get the Pad Thai (but everything is good)!

We had a truly exceptional stay at this condo in Kihei. The host had absolutely everything thoughtfully prepared, from detailed local recommendations to an incredible selection of beach accessories (chairs, umbrellas, cooler, surf boards, you name it!). The place was spotless, beautifully organized, and in a fantastic location just steps from the beach and great food spots. It’s rare to find a rental that feels this welcoming and well-equipped. AMAZING PROPERTY!! Matt really is a super host! He has ensured you have everything you need at the condo for your stay! The kitchen is stocked as well as your own at home! The bed is extremely comfortable & it’s so handy having a washing machine & dryer. There’s beach chairs, coolers, and even hooks in the shower for your wet bathing suits. The condo is located in a great part of town, many restaurants a short walk & a convenience store just downstairs.The sunset views from the patio are breathtaking! Book this condo I highly recommend!

Couldn’t have asked for a better stay and a better host! Matt was accommodating, friendly, professional and welcoming. He gave clear instructions on how to check in and check out. The views from both rooms were beautiful. The road noise during the afternoon & evening was loud. Local vehicles with loud blaring steros were very disappointing. Sunsets were amazing. There wasn't a dining table area which was disappointing for entertaining. The condo was nicely equipped.

Great location and amenities

This is our second time staying at this location and we would return again if traveling back to Maui. Everything you need is in the unit, or just a short walk away. The beautiful scenery from the lanai's is breathtaking. Watching the sunset each day was amazing. Be ready for an early morning wake up call by the local roosters, which could be before the sun rises. This is your chance to get out on one of the 2 lanai's and watch the sunrise and the beauty of the area come into focus

Best rental in Kihei for down to earth travelers

If you're not looking for a fancy resort, this is by far the best rental in all of Kihei. Matt is super friendly and full of tips and tricks to make your vacation special. The property is exactly as listed, large and spacious. Big comfortable couch, super comfy bed and clean linens. The kitchen is big enough to store food for the week and cook whatever you need. It's pretty amazing being able to wake up and watch the surfers from your balcony. We love to being able to walk downstairs to find food and do grocery shopping at foodland. The park across the street was a gorgeous spot to take sunset walks and watched a wild roosters. We would absolutely book here again in a heartbeat.

Perfect stay in Maui

We had a perfect stay in Kihei. Matt was extremely helpful and the unit had everything we needed, including the amazing view from the lanai. We ate at the Maui Gardens food trucks every day and got our morning coffee at Kraken, all just a couple minutes walk from the condo. We could not have had a more perfect stay.

Everything we expected

This condo was everything we expected, it was well equipped for the needs of our stay. The view of the ocean and park across the street was amazing from either lanai, especially the sunsets. Great location to beaches whether you walked to close by ones or drove to others, Makena Beach is awesome. The close proximity of South Maui Gardens, local restaurants and Foodland grocery was very convenient as well. Matt was an excellent host and kept in touch throughout our stay to make sure everything was all ok. We will definitely keep this unit in mind for future trips!

Wow. Matt and Colleen really knock it kit of the park. Parking was a breeze, then the lanais really bring a literal breeze into the unit! We only ran one of the 2 ac units briefly each night, letting the trade winds and ocean sounds lull us to sleep. Perfect views of the ocean, ample towels, easy check in/check out 10/10. The South Maui Gardens next door offer 10s of food trucks worth of dining options. And the location in Kihei is convenient to the airport / and both the east and west sides of the island. We hope to come back and visit again!!

This place was amazing! The views from both the living room and bedroom were unbelievable. Location could not be better, easily walk to Kihei Cafe (less than 500 feet), Foodland grocery store and/or the food trucks at the Kihei Food Oasis. Matt was a great host, he is responsive and knowledgeable about things to do & see. This place is easily the best stocked place we have stayed. Full line of beach equipment and the kitchen had just about everything you could imagine. Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone going to Maui.
