The lighthouse on Gabo Island guards the eastern entrance to Bass Strait in #Australia. It is an active navigation lighthouse and weather station for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. It was built in 1853 from red granite sourced on the island. The wind blew down the windbreak wall, so buttresses were added for stability. We went to the top for perfect 360 degree views on a blue sky day. Access to the island is generally by boat and one can stay overnight! #Hiking #Blue #Outdoors

"Blue Sky" Gabo Island Lighthouse Reserve is operated by Parks Victoria, who can be contacted for overnight stays in the Caretaker's accommodation. Chance Brothers & Co. - Lighthouse Engineers & Constructors from near Birmingham, England commenced building the lighthouse in 1860. Very good accommodation for the price.Next to the city and the beach.Easy acces to Croajingolong national park.Great garden for kids to playQuiet street with no carsour 2 families had a really good time here even with the heavy rain.
