Great Trip Until Check Out
The home was everything we expected it to be. It was rustic, but very charming and met all of our needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Denmark and our stay at this home, until it was time to check out. Upon departure, the owner insisted we meet with him on site to review our utilities fees and square up. Well, when he got to the home and finished checking our usage, he handed us a bill for around eight hundred dollars and insisted we pay in cash. I guess part of that was the remaining charges that needed to be settled for the VRBO rental, which I had assumed were already charged to my card. Since I didn't have that much money in cash, I pleaded and asked that he take a card or payment through an app, but he said he would only take cash. At this point we were on a tight schedule, and the closest bank was in Nakskov, so I asked him where we could get that kind of cash in a short time frame. He told me we could do a wire transfer at the store just a couple minutes from the VRBO, so off we went. When I got to the store, they had no clue what I was talking about, but ended up charging me around $800 for a pack of gum, and gave me the cash back. We returned to the home, settled up with the owner, and were off to Copenhagen for the last leg of our trip in Denmark. Now, 7 months later, I get a collection notice from them saying we never paid for our initial deposit on the home. I'm apparently out of characters, but my point is, shouldn't this have been handled differently VRBO?
