"Having run a hostel in the past, I can appreciate the effort that goes into providing a welcome atmosphere and these folks have it down! Excellent location and easy access to tourist bus. These folks even provide complimentary shuttle service to the train/bus stations! Fantastic!"

"Der Aufenthalt im Ryokan war wunderbar. Wir fanden es schade, dass wir nur eine Nacht gebucht hatten. Die Gastgeberin ist wirklich sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Es gibt verschiedene Services die man kostenlos nutzen kann wie z.B. Yukatas, Süßigkeiten, Tee, Räucherstäbchen und vor allem den Onsen. Der Onsen ist sauber und sehr entspannend. Es gibt einen für Frauen und einen für Männer. In der Zukunft soll noch ein Außenbad hinzukommen. Der Ryokan liegt ungefähr 25 Minuten vom Zentrum entfernt...

"Check in was fast and the front desk personnel were able to speak English well. We reserved a room that had two twin beds and an adjoining tatami mat sitting room that could also function as additional bedroom with futons. "What an amazing place this is!! Everyone was telling me that I needed to stay in a Ryokan while I was in Japan and the Asunaro was the PERFECT place to experience a traditional Japanese inn. "This family-run guesthouse is a good half-hour walk from the train station, although there are buses every hour from 9:00 to 18:00 (6:00pm) that stop at the bottom of the hill. The establishment can sometimes pick you up or drop you off. The shared toilets and bathing facilities are clean and separated by gender, but the tired slippers at the entrance don’t seem like a very hygienic alternative to one’s own shoes… maybe we were spoiled by staying in too many business and apartment hotels and...
