"We booked for 5 nights so that we could explore the area, having never visited north east England previously. The location suited our purpose very well.
The breakfasts were good and the staff made sure that all dishes were kept well filled; my one suggestion for meal improvement concerns the fixed all day menu. Whilst I understand the convenience (for the hotel) of having a fixed unchanging menu (except for the specials which were not available every evening) it does not suit guest who stay...

"The room, although small was very comfortable with a feeling of space provided by the view. Dinner was very good and the breakfast options were great.
Staff were very natural and friendly. Parking is provided at the back of the property in a quiet free public car park, with access to the hotel just a few steps away.
I would definitely stay here again when next in the area, with no hesitation."

"The staff were excellent and couldn’t be more helpful. The lobby and bar areas were nice. We had to change rooms as our first room wasn’t clean. We were moved to a better room only to find scaffolding being put up outside our room on the first day.
We went out for the day and when we came back there were workmen on the scaffolding. We decided to pack up and go home a day earlier than planned. We only stayed one night when we had paid for two. We won’t be going back to this hotel. It needs to...

It is clean and conveniently located, but staff only seems to be interested in running the downstairs pub/restaurant and you are pretty much on your own from the start to finish if you ever have any issues. I had a room with a balcony, but the balcony was somewhat disappointing. The television is so small that you are lucky even to notice it on the opposite wall."

"If you value the suspension in your car then avoid the long potholed drive up to this property!
On arrival it transpired the lift was not working and no-one appeared the whole weekend to investigate or repair. No idea how long it had been broken. No apology was given when we arrived. We were simply directed to the staircase to get to our room on the 2nd floor!.
No idea when the skirting boards in the room was last cleaned.
The shower in the room was scalding hot one minute and freezing cold...

"The photos were very misleading. This place was very run down. On entry, despite lots of posters highlighting no smoking, the foyer and many areas smelled of smoke. The lady on reception was very friendly, however, she went through several rooms on the computer before finding one that had the keys available when she checked. On entering the room, on the third floor (304), the window was wide open, the safety latch having broken. The bed base was broken and mattress very lumpy giving a very poor...

It was quite warm so not a major problem for us but the windows needed refurbishment so they be opened or closed easily. The electric shower was very weak. These issues were relatively minor given the pluses of staff, food and comfortable beds"

"The hotel is conveniently located near many restaurants and is within walking distance of Newcastle University. The city centre is also easily accessible by bus. The staff were exceptional: warm, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. Free coffee was also available throughout the day, which was a nice extra."
