This idyllic stone house from the 19th Century the perfect vacation spot for everyone who is looking for seclusion and perfect nature. The property has been carefully rebuilt into a beautiful family-friendly house, while preserving the historical heritage. The magical location on the mountain slope, in a picturesque area typical of old Dalmatia, offers you a wonderful panoramic view of the landscape, as well as a magnificent view of the sea and the islands.
The interior, a successful mix of modern and antique, creates a warm and inviting impression. The property consists of two interconnected buildings with three bedrooms with their own bathrooms. In addition to the modern kitchen and living area, this cozy house also has a well-equipped, archaic-looking summer kitchen that opens onto the terrace where you can enjoy your morning coffee without waking the others. In addition, this kitchen and the terrace offer the perfect retreat from the midday heat.
A swimming pool, an outdoor shower and a grill also offer the comfort of a contemporary holiday home. Here you can spend the days by the pool or with a good book in the shade.
If you are looking for some variety to the activities around the house, you can go hiking or cycling in the surrounding hills and mountains. Bicycles can be used free of charge by guests and can be found in the garage of the house. In five minutes you are on a beautiful pebble beach or in one of the charming neighboring villages, where you can find shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
This peaceful oasis in the old village of Zaostrog is a great starting point for excursions as it is halfway between Split and Dubrovnik. You need 90 minutes by car to both cities, as well as to the sunny islands of Hvar or Pelješac, where you can indulge yourself in one of the famous local wineries.
Villa Mara is the ideal house for a holiday with friends or family, even in early summer and late summer.

Croatia Getaway Stay

Everything about the property was fantastic. We had a very relaxing stay - our host was easy to reach and accommodating. He offered a great suggestion for a delicious seafood restaurant. I loved the atmosphere surrounding the property. It was quaint, a bit isolated but without noise or distractions. One thing I would suggest is that you keep food in sealed containers as there are tiny ants that will form in an instant if any food crumbs are left behind. Knowing this is easy to control as long as you are aware to keep things sealed. I highly recommend staying here. The view is spectacular too!

Traumhaftes Haus in Traumlage

Das Haus liegt wunderschön in den Bergen über Zaostrog mit einer traumhaften Aussicht auf das Meer und die Berge. Es ist im Haus alles vorhanden, was man braucht. ( Spülmittel, Seife, Toilettenpapier). Mario ist super nett, immer erreichbar und sehr gastfreundlich! Das Haus ist auch ideal für den Urlaub mit Teenager, da diese im oberen Zimmer ein Reich für sich haben. Der beheizte Pool hatte eine angenehme Temperatur um auch mal Abends zu schwimmen. Wir würden sofort wieder buchen.

Quiet and beautiful location

Located just 5 minutes from the main road, supermarket and the town of Zaostrog is this nice and perfectly outfitted villa. It is a very quiet and peaceful area, up in the mountains and with lovely nature all around. The villa has all the amenities you will need.

Top-Lage zwischen Bergen und Meer!

Dieses sehr gut ausgestattete Haus befindet sich in einer traumhaften Lage mit einem sehr interessanten geschichtlichen Hintergrund! Wir haben zwei sehr schöne und entspannte Wochen am Haus/Pool/Strand/Ortskern verbracht! Tipp: abends auf der Terrasse sitzen und einfach den Ausblick runter zum Meer bei einem Glas Wein oder einer riesigen Wassermelone von ortsansässigen Obsthändler genießen! Ein großes Lob auch an Mario, der stets sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit war und so Einiges zum Ort und seiner Geschichte zu erzählen wusste! Man könnte noch viel schreiben, die Kurzversion: TOP!

Beautiful villa

Lovely villa, exactly as described. Great view, cool property up above town. Mario was very responsive and helped us with anything we had questions about. As with all rentals, it helps to have cell service when arriving to communicate timing with the host. Of note, the heated pool gets to 27-28 C, which would likely be comfortable when the weather is nice but was not warm enough to use if the weather is cool or rainy at the start of the off-season.

Tolles, ruhig gelegenes Haus, toller Gastgeber

Das Haus ist sehr ruhig gelegen, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Wir konnten richtig gut abschalten und haben die Ruhe sehr genossen. Mario hat viele Tipps gegeben für Ausflüge und Sehenswertes in der Nähe. Außerdem hat er uns Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Restaurants empfohlen. Wenn wir etwas brauchten, war er jederzeit über WhatsApp erreichbar oder sofort vor Ort verfügbar. Wir würden wieder buchen :)

Perfekte ungestörte Unterkunft!

Alles sehr sauber, gepflegt und sehr gut ausgestattet (Internet, Bluetooth-Box, Küchenutensilien, Fahrräder). Pool und Terrasse sind super. Wunderschöne Aufteilung des Hauses. Große Küche und Grill. Sehr schneller, netter und zuverlässiger Kontakt. Gerne wieder!

Wunderschöne Umgebung und traumhaftes Haus

Wir hatten sehr erholsame Sommerferien in dem schönen Steinhaus in Zaostrog. Für alle Urlauber die Ruhe und eine wunderschöne Landschaft und einen schönen Strand bevorzugen, ist das Haus perfekt. Man findet alles was man braucht im Haus. Alles ist top gepflegt und sehr sauber. Mario ist ein sehr aufmerksamer Gastgeber gewesen, der alle Fragen und Wünsche sofort beantworten konnte und erfüllt hat. Alles in allem uneingeschränkt weiter zu empfehlen - besonders gut für einen gemeinsamen Familienurlaub geeignet. Wir hoffen, dass wir noch einmal wieder kommen können. Vielen Dank für Alles.

Traumurlaub Ende Juni in Zaostrog

Wir waren zu viert für 10Tage in der Villa Mara und hatten einen superentspannten Urlaub. Es war alles vorhanden und die gute Seele des Hauses ( in unserem Fall Mario: Danke nochmal! ) war nur einen Anruf entfernt um etwaige Probleme sofort zu lösen. Gastfreundlichkeit war Spitze( Wir bekamen sogar ein kleines Begrüssungsgeschenk) Alles in allem absolut zu empfehlen für Leute die einen ruhigen Urlaub wollen.

Beautiful villa with everything you need for the perfect holiday!

My daughters and I enjoyed the perfect holiday at Villa Mara. Matko was a wonderful and accessible host. We thoroughly enjoyed the vegetables, olive oil, delicious homemade bread and local delicacies (thank you, Bozena!) that welcomed us on our arrival. The villa is beautiful. I loved that everything in the villa was spotless and new while designed in an authentic rustic style. There is a fabulous view of the valley, mountains and sea from the terrace. The pool is inviting and sparkling clean. The bedrooms were all very comfortable. We found the kitchens (two!) fully stocked and a pleasure to use. We also took advantage of the many options for dining out as the food throughout Croatia was delicious with excellent service and more than reasonable prices. We enjoyed being able to take amazing day trips to Dubrovnik and Hvar, while also spending some leisurely days luxuriating in the villa and taking in the local sights. This was our first visit to Croatia. The people were very friendly and the scenery was often breathtaking. Our only complaint is that the vacation was far too short. We would have loved to have spent more time here and hope to return. We can give our highest recommendation to this experience.

Amazing

We had a fantastic week here in Villa Mara. The house is lovely; mixing old world charm with all the modern facilities. The location is fab, as you have easy access to the sea but you are up in the hills, where is is quiet and with a beautiful view. Also Matko was extremely helpful. It was a great stay, very relaxing, and we would highly recommend this villa.

Absolutely amazing from start to finish

We spent 2 amazing weeks at Matko's beautiful villa in September and it was fabulous. The location, a mile or so up a winding road into the woods, is so peaceful and the views stunning from every angle. The villa itself is beautiful, modern, stylish and tastefully furnished and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Matko himself is the most helpful and attentive host you could wish for and couldn't do enough for us, without being in any way intrusive.The bread and basket of vegetables he left for us were a lovely touch. He even organised us a table in a restaurant in the village on our arrival late at night and the minute we arrived, we knew we were in heaven. Everything is spotlessly clean and we had more clean towels, beach towels and sheets that we could possibly use. The village is very pretty as are the many others around this area and we found Croatia absolutely stunning along the whole coastline, as well as in land around the rivers and lakes. Out of all of the villa's around Europe that we have stayed in, this is my absolute favourite. We were so sad to leave and will definitely come again. Have already recommended it to many friends. Thanks Matko, you have done a great job.

Just wonderful

Villa Mara is stunning both inside and outside. Its wonderful location is peaceful and the views are breathtaking. It was hard to decide which way to look from the pool area; down the valley to Zaostrog, the sea and her islands or to the majestic mountains around the house. Both are fantastically inspiring. The old village is quiet and with just a few families living there so we didn't feel on our own but had complete privacy. It also has a natural spring just a hundred metres along the road and the water is sweet and cool. The house itself has been renovated with great care and attention to detail. Nothing had been forgotten to make our stay comfortable and easy. Everything in the house was finished tastefully and to a high standard with air conditioning in every room. It was just a short car journey to the beach where the owner Matko miraculously provided us with a parking space a few steps from the sea. Just one of many thoughtful things he did for us. Matko couldn't have been more generous and helpful; from fresh fish for our supper, to organising an 18th birthday cake for our son, to finding a boat to explore the coast for an afternoon, to advice on restaurants and activities, we were incredibly well looked after. Thank you Matko for it all and we wish you all the success that you deserve with this wonderful house. Hopefully one day we will be able to return- we would absolutely love to!

A stunning house in a beautiful location

We had a wonderful time in Matko's gorgeous house. Tastefully decorated, and very well equipped, it had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Our two teenagers were happy to hang around in the pool, while the adults took the short drive down to Zaostrog for an afternoon dip in the warm, clear sea. Matko was the perfect host, arranging a vegetable basket and fresh bread delivery from a local family, and even delivering us a beautiful dinner from a nearby restaurant. Between swallows dipping in the pool, and a visiting donkey during the day, and a sky full of stars and bats at night, we were in heaven. Highly recommended
