St Andrew's church The historian Francis Blomefield (1705-1752) was born and is buried in the village of Fersfield > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576775. He was the eldest son of Henry and Alice Blomefield, who were yeomen farmers. Ordained in 1729, Blomefield became Rector of Fersfield. The passion of his life was collecting and studying old manuscripts and it was from Fersfield that he published his acclaimed 'History of Norfolk' St Andrew's church > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576756 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576771 built of flint and freestone, dates from the 13th century. The oldest feature of the church is the font > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576792 which is believed to be 12th century. Beside it, in a glass case in the lady chapel, lies the painted wooden effigy of Sir Robert Du Bois > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576795 who died in 1311. The figure is carved out of a single piece of oak and what remains of the paint is believed to be original. The effigy is universally acknowledged as being one of the finest examples of its kind and was a showpiece at the Age of Chivalry exhibition in London in 1987. A stone effigy of the church's first priest, William Du Bois, lies in the north-east corner of the chancel > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576783. The chancel panelling and reredos > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1576785 are of Jacobean oak, the centre piece of the reredos is an iron cast reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's 'Last Supper'.
