AWD essential during winter and early spring! New in 2025—air conditioning!

The Stanley cabin property (land) was originally owned by the famous F. O. Stanley (who built the Stanley Hotel with his twin brother) and sits above town on 0.6 acres, enjoying views of the Twin Owls, Lumpy Ridge and Lake Estes from the main open plan living area and some of the bedrooms. Enjoy the best of both worlds with the ability to take a leisurely 15 or so minute walk into town, while still feeling secluded at the cabin. The location is perfect! You are so close to town, yet you can also bypass the downtown crowds to get to the RMNP.

Stanley cabin has two master suites, that each have direct access to one of three expansive decks. Each master suite has its own 32" flat screen TV (with DirecTV) and sitting area. The downstairs master also has it's own small gas stove to enjoy.

You will love catching up with friends and family in the open plan kitchen, dining, living area. The kitchen faces large windows that has a great view of the twin owls. There is additional seating at the kitchen peninsular to catch-up while cooking or baking. There is also an 8-seater table with additional stools at the kitchen peninsula and direct access from the kitchen / dining onto the deck through a sliding glass door where you can sit at the large picnic table and enjoy the beautiful scenery, or look out for deer, elk, bobcats, coyotes, rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels who all have been known to frequent the cabin. If you prefer to relax in front of a fire and watch TV, a large 50" screen TV sits above the fireplace to do just that.

When traveling on vacation you often need to pack lightly! There is a full sized stackable washer / dryer available on the main level for guests to use as needed.

Please note that there are 4 bedrooms that include 2 king size and 2 queen size beds. Two high-end sleeper cots are available to provide flexibility in sleeping arrangements for 2 additional people taking the total to 10 which is what the cabin is licensed to sleep. Also, the property has central heating AND air conditioning! Every room has either a ceiling or pedestal fan and most of the windows are screened.

During winter, a 4WD is recommended in general for commuting around Estes Park. A 4WD is necessary for our drive way, however if you are willing to park on the street, there is a front entrance with easy access.

We value our guests and are available to answer any questions or provide any assistance for the duration of our guests’ stay at Stanley Cabin.

The host was very helpful with our stay - answered questions, offered us good info for our visit, the Stanley Cabin was excellent in location and in good condition and clean, well stocked, and my family had a blast. Everything was in working order. This is our 2nd or 3rd stay in the Stanley Cabin! It is GREAT in every way. Thanks to the owner of the Stanley Cabin and to VRBO!

We read through all the glowing reviews before booking, so we were surprised that our experience didn’t quite match what others described. The home has a lot of charm and potential, but there were a few issues that affected our stay.The biggest disappointment was that the fireplace in the living room wasn’t working, which was one of the main reasons we chose this property. There were instructions on how to light the pilot, but that’s something guests shouldn’t really have to handle.The floors are VERY squeaky which can seem charming, unless you’re in the downstairs bedroom, you can hear EVERY step (and even movement) from the room above. There’s also a vent in the downstairs bedroom that runs all night, so light sleepers may find it difficult to rest.The listing mentions air conditioning, but the thermostat is labeled “heat only,” which was confusing. We also noticed a few maintenance issues a melted shower light in the downstairs bathroom and one of bedside lamps could only be turned off by twisting the bulb.

Perfect size and layout. The kitchen area is modern and the appliances look new. The property has wear and tear - Specifically lamps and fans that need replacing and a cracked and taped picture window. Otherwise the property is homey and comfortable. Beds and furniture are adequate. The location is quiet and even though it’s in a neighborhood it is extremely quiet and private. My immediate family of siblings and spouses all aged from early 60s to mid 70s didn’t enjoy all the stairs and the steep driveway, but we endured and managed. We especially enjoyed the social area and spent most of the time around the dining room table. This is the Stanley family cabin so we decided it was appropriate to view “The Shining “. We all would stay here again and recommend to friends.

Seeing a herd of elk grazing in the yard for an hour was a thrill for everyone. Beds and bedding were good except for the rollaways (both the frames were unstable so we had the little ones just sleep on the mattresses on the floor). Good location for getting into the park and around town. Decent kitchen. Nice selection of board games. But way too many things were out of repair or in bad condition that I had to notify the host about. Like broken windows, hand soap and towels in short supply, LR chairs (all 3) with seats so broke you had to sit on a pillow to be comfortable, and more. None of it awful, but not what I'd expect from a rental home at this level.

This property is excellent. We enjoyed our stay. We visited Rocky Mtn Nat Park during the day and in the evening the elk visited us, in the yard. Our 3 yr old grandson loved the house calling it his ‘treehouse’ and didn’t want to leave.

We arrived and the cabin had not been cleaned since the previous guest stayed. We were unable to get a response from the host, and the listed property manager reported that they no longer worked with that property when we called the number listed on the fridge.VRBO promised a refund due to the "Book with Confidence" guarantee, with a refund of the original booking fee. However, because the host falsely claimed that the property had been cleaned and that we did not follow check-in procedures, we were not given a refund. I was told that if I could prove when the photos of the dirty rental were taken with a time stamp that I would get a refund. I provided those photos, but still did not get a refund, so we had to pay for this location as well as an additional place to stay for the weekend, despite being promised verbally and in writing that we would be refunded. We did not have clean towels or sheets to put on the beds, and the bathrooms were very dirty.

Great location!

This isn't the newest cabin and that's fine. We are OK with the rustic nature of the cabin. The kitchen was still very clean and usable. We used the grill, but only because my husband was handy enough to get it lit. One of the rooms had a pretty musty smell. The beds were quite firm and bedding was dated (but clean). The bathrooms were nice and up to date. If you have a full house and need to use all the seating in the living room, the two arm chairs are quite lumpy and uncomfortable. They had a great collection of games and movies. There were lots of fans provided since there is no A/C (common for houses in the mountains). The location was close to so much, the grocery store, Stanley hotel, an ER (we had a family member who needed to be see for something), a dollar general, and not far from park entry at all. Overall we were satisfied with our stay.

Good experience overall

Lots of room. 3 baths. Convenient to downtown & shuttle. Next to medical facility. No A/C, but none was needed when we were there. Bring your own soap & toilet paper. Would stay there again. EASY check-in and check-out. Great communication from prop mgr.

50th birthday weekend

It was my sister's 50th birthday and we surprises her with a weekend in Estes. We had six adults. The house was very clean and well equipped with everything we could need. Just minutes away from downtown, but we still felt like we were out of town. Plenty of room for all of us. It was a great weekend.

An OK Stay

Overall, our stay at this house was ok. The location was ideal, in that it was close to town and the park entrance. It was in a quiet neighborhood. There was ample room for our crew of 10 people. The beds were decent. The bedrooms were large. The host responded quickly when we reported seeing a mouse in the house, and when we requested additional towels. Cons: There was an overall feel of griminess in the house: the edges of the counters were sticky, there was a thick coating of black mold in the rubber gasket of the washing machine that I was unable to remove, the carpets looked very old and grimy. In general, the house looked run down, and like it needed some TLC. I was disappointed in the condition of the house for the price we paid for it. Also, we ran out of hot water pretty quickly nearly every evening when trying to cycle everyone through the showers. Overall, our needs were met, and we had a place to stay, but I was disappointed in the cleanliness and quality.

6 day stay

The house fitted our needs. However there are many maintenance issues. All the decks look old and unkempt. The outside furniture is old and not very nice, definitely not welcoming. We ran out of toilet paper after the first night, very inconvenient. Two of the living room chairs are bumpy and we could not sit on them and needs to be replaced. The bedrooms were fine. All in all from the outside the house look neglected and I think it is outside of the current price bracket.
